    Btw...
If any of you are watching the TV show, The Mole, Brent and I have been doing a podcast about it... I think it's well worth listening to, especially as a prep for that night's episode.

    Wow... I got chills...
The new Watchmen trailer is up... and I approve. I know I don't normally watch trailers, but I know this story pretty much by heart, so it doesn't feel the same.

I love that they used Billy Corgan vocals on the trailer, and I'm really impressed with the general feel of the entire preview. Additionally, it doesn't tell you a damn thing about the story... which is magnificent.

    Yering Station Pinot Noir Rose’

The vineyards of Yering Station are amongst the oldest in Australia. The winemaker at Yering Station since 1996 is 37 year-old Tom Carson, who has featured a two-year stint in Burgundy. In 2004, Tom rose to real fame by scooping not one, or two, but three of the most important awards at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

Tasting notes : It is a light and translucent red/pink. Unsurprisingly this rose smells like a restrained Pinot Noir with strawberry and cherry aromas. Although the wine is light in body, the delicate red fruit flavors hang around for an extremely long time, finishing dry with a slightly savory note and a hint of soft tannin.

Both Obama and McCain skipped the cloture vote to end debating the text of the new FISA bill. This bill offers immunity to the telecoms for the wiretapping program following 9/11. At LEAST they have changed the immunity so that it doesn't extend to six months BEFORE 9/11, like the old immunity provision allowed. But I still stand by the argument that considering the president can pardon whoever he likes, retroactive immunity is pointless. This is a shameful abuse of power... and it makes me sick to my stomach.

    Featuring the Wines of
    Bourgeois Family Selections,
    Poured by Jean-Phillipe Bourgeois

Bourgeois Family Selections is a highly specialized importing company that believes the heart and soul of France’s wine industry can be found in the small estates. They are the very pulse of its lifeblood, “le vin”. By putting the spotlight where it belongs, on the terroir that generations of the same family have toiled, the handpicked grapes, wine lovingly made with the knowledge handed down father to son, they help bring that nation’s rich wine heritage to the world.

Jean-Philippe is a sixth generation legacy in the beer, wine and spirits industry in his native country. He has spent years traveling the wine regions and countless time scouring the back roads of Gaul for unique, hand selected, organic wines. His goal is to bring you what only a Frenchman can; the most exciting undiscovered gems of the old world; beautiful, passionately hand made wines, never before available in the US market.

    Chateau Capion ‘1C’ Blanc 2006

Located in the Côteaux du Languedoc region, Château Capion had been in the Salasc family for three generations. Named after a Languedocian village situated on the edge of the Salagou Plain where they live, the family has owned shy of 1,000 acres of land largely planted with vines. The soils are of well drained limestone scree from glacial folds, ideal for viticulture.

Tasting notes : Fresh, lively and rich, with pretty tropical fruit, ripe apple and melon notes. The long finish features mineral and smoke. Chardonnay, Roussanne, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc.

    HALP!
Ok... so my plans for Play On Con are still in high-flux gear. I have panels that I thought were going to be hosted that I currently have no one to handle them. If you know anyone who is attending Play On Con, or who might be interested in attending if they were on staff, and would help with the following programming, please let me know.

    • I have a latex application workshop scheduled. I am interested in finding someone who can teach a hands-on workshop where pairs of people learn about latex applications and how to make them stay on you.

    • I will be hosting another poetry slam, like at Frolicon. If you think you can write funny or compelling poetry to read out in public, please come armed to slam.

    • I need DJs for a bizarre project called the Democratic Dance Off. I want to make a quadrant on the dance floor and have multiple DJs propose the future music being played. People would vote for the next music by dancing in particular places. This means I need four DJs with a way to merge their music. If I can't make it happen, I can't make it happen... but I think it's brilliant and will fit the weekend's theme.

    • I want to have a "How to Play D&D 4.0" workshop. If anyone has any neat or fantastic ideas about how to make that interactive, let me know.

    New FISA Bill Info
So the FISA bill that I wrote my senator about is up for vote again. Previously, the House had rejected the Senate bill, but it appears the tables are turned. Now, the House bill is being sent to the Senate, and it includes, once again, the telecom immunity clause.

    Some info on the bill...

    Interesting Notes:
    • The bill sunsets in December 2012, a mere one year earlier than the Senate bill and a presidential election year. Meaning that it is designed for another fight right when people are eager to make up their minds on our leadership. This is one of the most cynical paradoxes of the whole mess
    • The bill does not include a prohibition on bulk collection. Meaning that TAPPING all the traffic in and out of the country is fine. It seems that sifting through it would be easier bureaucratically than getting permission to tap the line.
    • The bill prohibits intentionally targeting a person outside the U.S. ...if “the purpose” is really to target someone ... in the U.S. ... but the guidelines are not subject to judicial review, and the bill does not ... require the government to obtain a court order whenever a significant purpose of the surveillance is to acquire the communications of an American. Meaning they can tap your phone, claim it was to catch someone else, and no one would be able to review that decision to say it was unwarrented.
    • If the government goes forward with surveillance before obtaining court approval, and the court subsequently determines that the government’s surveillance violated the law, the government can nonetheless keep and use any information it obtained. Pay attention, folks. If they break the law obtaining information, they can still use that information against you. This goes against almost every domestic law that we have.

This whole issue continue to make me sick to my stomach.

Edit: I chopped some of the excess legalese out for my friends... if you doubt my ellipses, go to the Feingold document.
