Seattle Pride 2008 photodump [29 Jun 2008|08:03pm]

The Seattle Times said there were 400,000 people at the parade today. If that's true, then it was an enormous success. I have no idea if there were that many people. All I know is that it was way hot out, and there were a lot of people. Anyways, here are all the pictures I took today:

Seattle transportation system [25 Jun 2008|05:50pm]
This is what happens when our region makes poor transportation choices. Just an hour left to go the 10 miles home on a jam packed bus that is literally sitting still (in the HOV lane no less) on the freeway.

Apollo in HDTV [08 May 2008|02:08pm]
This is some exciting stuff. The Discovery Channel will be taking some NASA film from Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo, converting it to digital and releasing it in HDTV, which will then be made available to the public. They already have some modern footage in HD, and they also have some high-res historical images available. I can't wait to see the results of this effort.

The Seattle Municipal Archives just opened a Flickr photostream of their more interesting finds. I like this letter from Lu Ellen Peterson regarding an imminent visit by The Beatles.

"Dear Mayor Braman:

I'm not so sure when you hear what I want that you will be glad to helpme. But I sure hope so. You might think I'm crazy for asking this but Ihope not. It is just a idea and I would appreciate it very, very muchif you would help it come true. Well here goes.

You know the Beatles are coming to Seattle. I know they will not bethere very long. But I suppose while they are there they would like togo up in the Space Needle and see some of the sights. But if they goduring the hours that the Civic Center is open they would get mobbed byfans. So I was thinking maybe they could go after hours. And I waswondering if maybe just maybe I could meet them and show them aroundthe place. I know it by heart I'm sure I do. Oh, please Sir please canI. It means a lot to me. Maybe you have got nothing to do with theBeatles but please ask someone their manager of something if I can doit.

Please I would appreciate it very, very much. Please!!

Respectfully yours, Lu Ellen Peterson"
