I've been watching the Next Mutation on Youtube. God bless the person who put it up!

Now, admittedly, I feel slightly protective towards this series because I was a 90s kid, running home every day to watch the various Haim Saban shows and the Next Mutation was one of them. Even when I was 12 or 13, I watched it.

And yes, for all its faults, I like it. It's sweet and silly and a goofy change. I don't mind Venus too much, although I don't understand Mikey's new voice; it's high and normal, rather than surfer-slang although it does suit his childish and upbeat nature.

But more than anything else, it's this series which endeared me to the lovely Donny. I liked him in the episodes with Doctor Quease, and I think they got his character quite well.

*Holds hand up* Yes, I kinda like it. *shrugs*

Surprise Con

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 8:14 PM

For all my New England friends there is a unscheduled con going on.  Sounds fun.  Can't be there haz Jihadz.  But there is no reason you should have to miss out...and i think it's free.  The date is suppose to read July if you follow the link.

All your base are belong to us.

Noez, really.

I can has chauvinistic husband. Hai faive. I like.

The husbands gather, and toast: "I can't win. I won't win. I don't want to win," they bellowed in unison, before tippling from tall schooners of draft beer.

A reminder for how they want to argue with their wives. Personally, I think that's the wrong way to go about it. It isn't about either side winning, it's about both sides feeling heard, and not the words on the surface, but the feelings underneath.

In the case of these husbands, the word chauvinist doesn't refer to a woman hating man . . . "the word chauvinist . . . Amano says, is not intended to refer to bossy men. Instead, it invokes the original meaning of the Japanese word that today translates as chauvinist, kanpaku, a top assistant to the emperor. "

uh, ok.

29% of Japans college educated women do not want to get married. "This wariness is a rational response to the isolation and drudgery of being a wife in Japan, according to Hiromi Ikeuchi, a family counselor with the Tokyo Family Laboratory. "I don't think it is the fault of men," she said. "It is the corporate culture that expects men to work late."

Makes sense to me . . . if all other things are equal (more or less), and you become displaced in marriage, why would you want to get married?

The husbands association ranks its members on a scale of 1 to 10.

A "1" is a well-meaning but clueless guy who has done little more than show up at a group meeting.

A "10" is a husband who has reached a Zen-like state of being able to show his wife through his daily behavior that he truly loves her -- and even manages to spit out the words "I love you." It is not common in Japanese culture for men or women to say those words, even in happy marriages, according to marriage counselors.

When I read about how these men put their purpose first, above family and wives, I think the end result is what David Deida seems to advocate in his book Way of the Superior Man.

Sue #1!

TITLE: Dark Princess
PERPETRATOR: Arwengaladrielpotter
BANNER:What is in the crystal? Captured My Little Ponies?
SUE-O-METER: (toxic)

FULL NAME: Pyro Violet Riddle. LMAO!!!!
SPECIES: Witch
HAIR: "midnight black" in a braid to her waist.
EYES: amber, they "held a fire deep within them ready to burn anything".
MARKINGS: She is very pale. She wears black lipstick and black eyeliner. The Dark Mark.
POSSESSIONS: "a ten inch wand with a unicorn hair and a basilisk’s scale. The wand was nearly black and a design of a snake was on the handle", "a black owl with red eyes and named him Demon", "That year Pyro got a snake from her parents who she named Osiris", "a long strapless black dress", "a floor length dark red dress. It was off the shoulder and had long sleeves that belled out at the end. A slit went all the way up to mid thigh and on her feet were red high heels", random jewelery from Death Eaters, Draco gives her "a golden charm bracelet, snakes and fire symbols were dangling from the chain". He's not too subtle is he?

ORIGIN: High school sweethearts, Tom and Violet, fall in love, get married and have a baby. Oh, yeah, he happens to be Voldemort, no biggie.
CONNECTIONS TO CANON: She is Voldemort's daughter. "The Death Eaters shall know their Dark Princess as Pyro Flame Maker". LOL WUT? She is in Slytherin, and was sorted into the House before she even sat down. She is best friends with all of the important Slytherins (Draco, Pansy and Blaise). She is enemies with Harry & Co.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: She "has the ability of telekinisis, fire, and parseltounge". As a newborn she can make balls of fire in her hands. I didn't think newborns would be able to control that sort of power. They can't really control anything when they are newly born.

NOTES: I don't understand why anyone would want to write a story like this, and I don't understand how it has all positive reviews, no concrit.

And how should I identify with you? )

Invitations, part 2

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 8:37 AM
My future mother-in-law is brilliant.

She said, "just put gift registry cards in the invitations of people under thirty." That way I won't offend old people.

That would work. I think I will even further expand it, however, to people under thirty and people not closely related to me or Paul.

Discovery: this custom seems to be regional. On the East Coast, including the info is extremely rude. Here, not so much. And my Canadian friend Jamie says that it's abnormal NOT to include it.

Paul summed it up in saying that no matter what custom or rule one is thinking of going by in a wedding situation, there will be someone out there who thinks it's rude.

The lesson: someone will be offended by something in our wedding, so we should do what feels right to us.

Lesson #2: I hate etiquette--it is retarded, and people need to be less offended by things. Let's all smear cake on our faces and parade around naked. Now that would be a wedding.

I so happy! Not in the truly blessed virtuous eudaimonia sense, but in the fleeting shallow subjective satisfaction our screwed-up world declares as the new summum bonum.

The loan so I can get my new computer (and don't have to clean myself out paying the whole thing at once) just cleared and I'll go to a branch of my bank at lunch to close it. The smallest loan they give is $3000, and I only need $2000, so going to turn right back around and pay the difference back on it. Then my grandmother is giving me another 1000, and my family is giving me some too, woohoo. Won't be too hard at all.

My current computer was about the best you could get... 8 years ago, 1.6 ghz pentium 3, 128 megs ram (which I later tripled), 10 gig HDD (also later tripled). I believe it was around $3000 at the time. It lasted those 8 years, but was seriously slowing down...

Before that I had a 166 mhz pentium 8 meg ram for 4 years which was also around $3000. (best you could get at that time too, I may be sketchy on numbers here...) Tech advances and costs lower.

Time for a new monster, one which will be powerful and vaporize your lawn and eat your kids. Hopefully this machine will last me another 8 years. I order tonight and hopefully put it together next weekend!

Doh! just got the e-mail my company was not acquired by the bigger one... I actually wanted that to happen... Their loss.

No Spoilerz, BUT!

Pick five movies from the 1970's movies you think are worth watching. I had to limit it as there are SO many. Also post the criteria you use to select them.
