Ephemeral II

Silent Cherry-bloom
Again with your
old eloquence
Address my inner ear
- Onitsura

Cherry blossoms represent that the most beautiful things are often fleeting and impermanent. This bracelet is simple and eloquent: a single, pink blossom is accompanied by two floating petals.

The main portion of this cuff is leather which I've hand-carved and painted in rich shades of brown and subtle blushes of pink. There is even a slight pearlescent sheen to the white highlights of the petals and an accent of green in the blossom. The front of the leather portion is sealed with an acrylic coating to ensure that it stays vibrant for a long time to come.

This adjustable bracelet features a basic hook clasp which you simply slide through the appropriate link of the antique silver-toned chain. The chain is adorned with beautiful glass beads which compliment the color scheme of the leather portion of the cuff, so this bracelet is lovely to behold from any angle. It is signed by the artist on the reverse.

measurements • the leather portion is about 4.5" in length and 1.5" in height; the chain allows this bracelet to be adjusted from about 7.5" to 9" around

materials • hand-carved and painted leather; silver-toned wire, grommets, and chain; glass beads

price • $25.00 US not including S&H; purchase through my Etsy shop!

27th-Apr-2008 02:00 pm - Winged Death's Head II · Leather Hair Ornament
Winged Death's Head II
This is a hand-carved and painted leather ornament for your hair. It is worn by pulling the hair up, cupping the leather portion over it, and then the hair stick is inserted through to hold it all in place. I have also simply worn this type of piece over the top of a ponytail to disguise the hair tie. It is signed by the artist on the reverse.

The inspiration for this piece were the various winged death's heads found on the upper registers of early American gravestones, especially those in New England. The decorative cuts and detailing on the skull also lend it a bit of a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) flair!

The leather has a rich brown stain which is accented with subtle metallic copper and red accents giving it a warm, antique feeling. The front is sealed with a protective acrylic topcoat to ensure that it will retain its charm over many years.

measurements • the leather portion is about 5" in length by about 3.25" in height

materials • hand-carved and painted leather; bamboo hair stick

price$18.00 plus S&H SOLD!
6th-Apr-2008 12:28 pm - Coyote Concerned · Faery Mask Necklace
It's been some time since I've had the opportunity to complete one of these necklaces, but at long last here it is: another canid Faery Mask piece! This is my very first Faery Mask piece to feature all sterling silver metallic components. I believe that as the silver tarnishes somewhat with time, it will only add character to this piece.

Coyote is typically a trickster figure in myth and legend, particularly in the tales of Native American tribes, but in this case he looks rather pensive - hence the piece's title.

I was trying to evoke the hues of a desert canyon as well as play off of the coyote's own coat with the beaded embellishments.

measurements • necklace is about 15.75" in length and clasps with a handmade hook and eye closure; the pendant as a whole (including dangles and beads) is about 3" long and 2" wide at its greatest points; the Faery mask itself is about 1" in length by about 1.25" in width at its greatest points;

materials • hand-sculpted, -painted polymer clay Faery Mask pendant; sterling silver wire and chain; freshwater pearls; coral, shell, glass beads; swarovski crystal; leather cord

price • $75.00 not including S&H: Purchase though my Etsy shop!

23rd-Mar-2008 08:31 pm - Homeward Bound · Leather Cuff Bracelet
This is probably my favorite leather creation to date, and it definitely ranks in my top jewelry pieces too. It will be hard to part with it! The motif is inspired by the imagery of American Traditional tattoos. There are numerous theories as to the symbolism behind the swallow design, most of them linked to the seafaring lifestyle of those sailors who were among the first to popularize tattoos in the US. As indicated by the title of this piece, I am interested in the swallow's nature to always find its way back to its origins.

This bracelet has a beautiful, aged quality about it. Upon closer inspection, you can appreciate the subtle turquoise in the recesses of the feathers, and the mottled background is reminiscent of tortoise shell.

It is worn by loosening the brown grosgrain ribbon, sliding the hand through, and then tightening the ribbon and adjusting the glass beads. The end portion of the ribbon can either be left to dangle below the wrist, or can be tucked under. It is signed by the artist on the reverse.

measurements • the leather portion is about 4.5" in length and 1.5" in height; when completely loosened, the bracelet is about 8.5" around

materials • hand-carved and painted leather, grosgrain ribbon, glass beads

price • $30.00 not including S&H: Purchase through my Etsy shop!

10th-Mar-2008 02:52 pm - The Urbane Primitive · Wirework Earrings
This striking pair of earrings puts a spin on natural materials often used by tribal cultures for ornamentation: bone, feather, stone, etc. The centerpiece of these earrings are two unique bone skull beads which have a beautiful, warm patina. Dangling below the skulls are genuine pink coral and garnet beads. Iridescent feathers, freshwater pearls, and swarovski crystals add a more delicate touch. You can see two more photos of this piece at this location.

measurements • each earring is about 2" in length (not including the ear wire)

materials • bone skull beads, feathers, genuine coral beads, genuine garnet beads, swarovski crystal, copper wire, freshwater pearls

price • $15.50 not including S&H: Purchase through my Etsy shop!
10th-Mar-2008 12:04 am - Atmospheric · Sterling Silver Wirework Earrings
It's been a while since I've made a pair of earrings, then one day this design came to mind and I could not resist the urge to make them tangible. The wirework design and overall color scheme is based on a stylized version of cumulus cloud formations, complete with delicate chain precipitation. No wire jigs were used in the creation of this piece; it was purely created by hand and pliers. You can view more photos of this piece at this location.

measurements • the wirework portion of the earring are about 1.5" long (not including the dangles and chain); the total length of the earrings is about 2.5"

materials • sterling silver wire & chain; freshwater pearls; mother of pearl; swarovski crystals; glass beads

I have a few more pieces which will be premiering soon! Keep an eye out for them!
7th-Feb-2008 08:30 pm - Blossoms + Black Lacquer · Leather Cuff Bracelet

Blossoms + Black Lacquer
This leather cuff bracelet features a gnarled branch in bloom with cherry blossoms. The central panel of the bracelet has been sealed with a high gloss finish, making it resemble black lacquer. The effect of the slightly pearlescent, pale blossoms contrasting against the rich, black background is really striking.

The bracelet is worn by sliding the hand through chocolate brown grosgrain ribbon which is laced almost corset-style around the back. The ends of the ribbon are then tightened and they dangle below the wrist.

You can view more photos of this piece (including photos of it being worn) at this location.

measurements • the leather portion is about 4" in width by about 4.25" in height

materials • hand-carved and painted leather; ribbon; glass beads

My boyfriend and I are going to be getting our first apartment at the end of the month! Yay for independence!

The items currently listed on sale are $10 or more dollars off their original prices. I may be putting some other items available there on sale too, so keep an eye out for them!

Happy belated Imbolc too!
