Tutu Fakir Impression
I have "Farewell to Nova Scotia" stuck in my head, a Cantarella review half-finished (YOU HIGURI OWNS MY SOUL!), and Kyo Kara Maoh S2 7 on order. LIFE IS GOOD!

Also, I have finally seen Iron Man, and have deemed it Awesome. Is it sad that Erik and I got to go out on our first date in months, and we ended up at the bookstore? Yea, we're geeks. Netflix needs to get with the sending me Gurren Lagaan. Les Bebe needs to learn to sleep. And I am still not moved.

In random news, the LT at work apparently saw me drooling over Junjou Romantica (EGOIST ZOMG!) character goods, and mentioned that he's going to be going to Tokyo in a few months. He's apparently an anime fan, too - we didn't have much time to chat because the world decided to explode then, but he likes Baki. What he doesn't yet know is that he's going to have to go shopping for me. ^_^

[EDIT] Only in Nevada... For obvious reasons, of course.

So, the first sign that I need more sleep is apparently thus. I saw a headline containing both the "Hans" and "Nina," and found myself wondering why Slashdot was posting something about Monster. Wow. I so wish I was making that up.

In the past week, Graydon has gone from pushing up on his arms and flinging himself on his face to get around, to actually crawling at full speed. Into things. Hard things. While being videotaped. It's kind of tragic, really. He's also magnetically drawn to power outlets. And he's already starting to pull himself up. The part that amuses me the most about this? He still can't sit up on his own. Oh, he'll sit if we sit him up, but he can't get into the sitting position by himself. I don't think he really sees much point in it.

Other than that, life is supremely the same. Still not moved, still no house sold, etc, etc. I suspect that we're going to be in this state of limbo for a long, long while. Boo.

FMA Shaken not Stirred
Yea, so apparently Disney World is happening in JANUARY 09, instead of November 09. *headdesk* I want to go to Disney...but I'm not sure that Disney with a fourteen month old is the best of plans. He'll love it, no doubt about that (Are there other people? Is there noise? These two things guarantee me a happy baby - bright colors and things to look at are a bonus) - but...it'll be exhausting! But there's the possibility of turning him over to grandma & grandpa for periods of time, and possibly even Disney daycare if need be. Because the Dani will be seeing La Nouba.

SIGH! If we do decide to go, it's going to be taking most of my free cash for the year. Not that there's much of that right now, with the (hopefully) last of the medical bills finally in to be paid.

[EDIT] Ha ha! I forgot to mention this little gem. There's a friend of my mother running around calling my son depraved. Why? Because when she went to pick him up at the baseball game, he grabbed her breast. Hello, seven months old. If she was joking it would be one thing, but the crazyhead is actually serious. I'm still not sure if I'm amused or pissed off.

Two entries in 24 hours! You are a lucky bunch of tarts.

Science Fiction Book Club list of most significant SF novels between 1953-2006. Bold the ones you've read.

1. The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
2. The Foundation Trilogy, Isaac Asimov
3. Dune, Frank Herbert
4. Stranger in a Strange Land, Robert A. Heinlein (note that I hate this book with the firey passion of a thousand burning stars)
5. A Wizard of Earthsea, Ursula K. Le Guin
6. Neuromancer, William Gibson

7. Childhood’s End, Arthur C. Clarke
8. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick
9. The Mists of Avalon, Marion Zimmer Bradley
10. Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury
11. The Book of the New Sun, Gene Wolfe
12. A Canticle for Leibowitz, Walter M. Miller, Jr.
13. The Caves of Steel, Isaac Asimov

14. Children of the Atom, Wilmar Shiras
15. Cities in Flight, James Blish
16. The Colour of Magic, Terry Pratchett
17. Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison

18. Deathbird Stories, Harlan Ellison
19. The Demolished Man, Alfred Bester
20. Dhalgren, Samuel R. Delany
21. Dragonflight, Anne McCaffrey (*STAB*)
22. Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card
23. The First Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, Stephen R. Donaldson
24. The Forever War, Joe Haldeman
25. Gateway, Frederik Pohl
26. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, J.K. Rowling
27. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams

28. I Am Legend, Richard Matheson
29. Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice
30. The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula K. Le Guin
31. Little, Big, John Crowley
32. Lord of Light, Roger Zelazny
33. The Man in the High Castle, Philip K. Dick

34. Mission of Gravity, Hal Clement
35. More Than Human, Theodore Sturgeon
36. The Rediscovery of Man, Cordwainer Smith
37. On the Beach, Nevil Shute
38. Rendezvous with Rama, Arthur C. Clarke
39. Ringworld, Larry Niven
40. Rogue Moon, Algis Budrys
41. The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien
42. Slaughterhouse-5, Kurt Vonnegut
43. Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson
44. Stand on Zanzibar, John Brunner

45. The Stars My Destination, Alfred Bester
46. Starship Troopers, Robert A. Heinlein
47. Stormbringer, Michael Moorcock
48. The Sword of Shannara, Terry Brooks

49. Timescape, Gregory Benford
50. To Your Scattered Bodies Go, Philip Jose Farmer

And you know, no matter how much I want to like Moorcock, I just...don't. Somehow, this makes me feel like a failure as a reader. I still have (read: own) a few of his books that I haven't yet read, so there's still hope, but it's not a very bright one.

This list is seriously lacking in CJ Cherryh, though. And any list that has McCaffrey and not Norton FAILS.

Things That Disturb Me #76,831

So, there I was, walking out in the neighborhood with Graydon. This truck passes me, driven by an older gentleman - probably in his early sixties - who's just staring me down. Passes slowly. Then turns around and starts to pass me again. WTF!? He rolled his window down, and proceeded to ask if I used to work at the restaurant I worked at ten years ago.

My mind, she is boggled. As it turns out, he's the father of a friend from high school (one of the few I don't hate, although we dropped out of touch). Bizzaro!

Doing the best it could
I actually hit REM sleep last night, after abandoning the boys and going to sleep on the couch. I had a bizzare dream, most of which I don't remember, but there was a Shark-vs-Jets style rumble between the cats and the cat people, prior to me heading over to Kentaro Miura's house. Except he was a nerdy white guy in emo glasses. WTF!? Subconscious, I don't think we understand each other any more, possibly because of our extended separation. I think we need more "us" time.

Help?

Dear Livejournal Braintrust:

I'm trying to fill some holes in my anime DVD collection before I pack them up, because some of these discs are getting hard to find, but I'm having difficulty locating some of them cheaply. Can any of you be of assistance? I'm hoping to find these in the under $13 range if at all possible, and I'm also willing to trade for them - I have Moon Phase 1 with box and photo album, all of This Ugly Yet Beautiful World with box, assorted figures, etc that I'd be willing to trade. Lots of manga, too.

The list (of stuff I'm looking for):

Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid 2-4
Fate/Stay Night 4 6 (6 available at TRSI, but only as a last resort)
Galaxy Railways 6
Samurai 7 3, 5-6
Kaze no Yojimbo 4
Gun x Sword 5-7 (available at TRSI, but only as a last resort)
Scrapped Princess 5
Fullmetal 9, 11-13
Nanaka 3
Mars Daybreak 5-6
Beck 4 2-3, 5-6

Also, in an ideal world, Shana 1-6. But I'm not going to try tracking that down now if I can't get the whole thing.

List of things I want to get rid of (work in progress - make me an offer if you want something? I pretty much just want these gone):
Moon Phase 1 + box and photo album
This Ugly Yet Beautiful World complete series + box
Ghost Stories 1, 3-5
Megahouse Precure figure set
Tons of anime playing cards - mostly Sailor Moon, some Naruto, Saiyuki, and others
CLAMP no Kiseki 1-7 (JP) with chess pieces
Fate/Stay Night Magical Catgirl Rin figure

Still alive. Barely. Haven't killed Erik. Still have both back and hamstrings, as they are quite vocal at the moment. Rethinking this whole "book" thing as packing them into boxes, and then having to schlep said boxes, Really Sucks.

Formal Tea on Saturday before I go to work. Rawk.

Dear iTunes:

Why yes, Mockingbird Girl was exactly what I wanted to listen to right now, thanks!

Also, my school? Really needs to learn the difference between "good publicity" and "bad publicity." Although I'm not sure that the latest counts as publicity per se, it's still rather disconcerting to have my alma mater the subject of an email sent by our chief of security. All those female commu-nazis, turned into rabble-rousers by the dearth of boys. Oh noes!

Cuteness for me, yay!

Etsy is crack. But totally in a good way.

Also, for the anime-inclined, TRSI is having one of their kickass 10 for $50 or 25 for $100 ADV sales. I finished off a couple of series I had holes in, picked up Loki Ragnarok, and then threw in a few random things to fill out the order. Woo! (Although if anyone wants the complete series of This Ugly Yet Beautiful World with box, I don't have any real desire to keep it.)

Friends! Countrymen! Minions! Go forth and read, and then buy to read the rest! The Bitter One writes good stuff.

...Although part of me wants to take that first line personally. Nice hook, though.

Mmmmm, meatcake. No matter how much I may want to, I could never become a sucessful vegetarian.

Going back to work after a three day weekend sucks. I don't get to see Gray again until I get off work on Friday. Boo. I miss my baby. He slept really well this past weekend, too - four and a half hours on Saturday night, and five and a half hours on Monday night. Of course, he then decided that it was Time To Get Up at around 6AM on Tuesday, and wouldn't hear otherwise, so we didn't get particularly rested, but at least he's finally starting to sleep longer. Yay!

Ashley called three times over the weekend to check on "her" baby. If he ever goes missing, I know the first place I'll look. ^_^

Lalala FOCUS!

Picture me twitching from the trauma. Then twitching more...If I ever needed proof that the world was not yet ready for Japanese TV, this is all I need.

Holy. Jeebus. There are no snarky comments possible for this.

[EDIT] Now with working linkage!
