Blessed [ 18 December 06 | 10:19 AM ]
Times like these, when I'm bogged down with work, finals, and longing to go home, I often forget how blessed I am. It gets hard, sometimes, to remember to count the wonderful things in your life when everything seems so bad... but really, if you took the time to write down all the good things in your life and all the bad things, I think you'd find, more often than not, that the good outweighs the bad.

So, in an effort to make my life cheerier, I will try to (daily) list a blessing or something that just makes me happy. (Perhaps this, too, will encourage me to post more in general.)

So today's happiness:
- Toasted bagels with garden cream cheese
- The smell of fresh paint
- Kitchener stitch
- Having a single!!!!

Still, I've always loved the tale of Tristan and Isolde. It's the most beautiful story ever told - next to that of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
- Ellsworth Toohey, The Fountainhead

We can never really know another person, except by our first glance at him. Because, in that glance, we know everything.
- Ellsworth Toohey, The Fountainhead

And what, incidentally, do you think integrity is? The ability not to pick a watch out of your neighbor's pocket? No, it's not as easy as that. If that were all, I'd say ninety-five percent of humanity were honest, upright men. Only, as you can see, they aren't. Integrity is the ability to stand by an idea.
- Kent Lansing, The Fountainhead

To say "I love you" one must know first how to say the "I".
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

It takes two to make a very great career: the man who is great, and the man - almost rarer - who is great enough to see greatness and say so.
- Kent Lansing, The Fountainhead

It was the only thing I ever wanted. And that's the sin that can't be forgiven - that I hadn't done what I wanted. It feels so dirty and pointless and monstrous, as one feels about insanity, because there's no sense to it, no dignity, nothing but pain - and wasted pain.
- Peter Keating, The Fountainhead

Look at everyone around us. You've wondered why they suffer, why they seek happiness and never find it. If any man stopped and asked himself whether he's ever held a truly personal desire, he'd find the answer. He'd see that all his wishes, his efforts, his dreams, his ambitions are motivated by other men. He's not really struggling even for material wealth, but for the second-hander's delusion - prestige. A stamp of approval, not his own.
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

I hate leaving my quotebook at home [ 13 July 06 | 10:42 PM ]
Nothing can be reasonable or beautiful unless it's made by one central idea, and the idea sets every detail.
- Howard Roark, The Fountainhead

Men hate passion, any great passion. Henry Cameron made a mistake: he loved his work. That was why he fought. That was why he lost.
- The Fountainhead
