Inside My Head

18th July, 2008. 9:37 pm. Why so serious?

Because I'm trying to avoid Batman: The Dark Knight spoilers. :P

Seeing as how almost everyone in my contacts list at Multiply saw this, it's doubly hard. Glad to see it got several four-five star reviews, though.

To have a Batman fix, I rewatched Justice League: The New Frontier again. It seems to be better with a second viewing.

Current mood: amused.

16th July, 2008. 11:08 pm. First day as a professional bum...

What happened:
- Slept in
- Woke up. Surfed a bit.
- Ate brunch.
- Played some Warcraft III.
- Slept.
- Met up with eBay buyer.
- More Warcraft III.
- YM chatting in between.

Mellow.

Apparently, when I sent out my last email yesterday, people were amused by my goodbye email. In it, I said I'm not good with goodbyes so I'd rather say "see you again!" since I'm sure paths will cross again someday, somehow...

People greeted me with "See you again!" as I left the office.

It's a nice feeling.

And I definitely didn't cry... though I think I was near that point one or two times. :P

Current mood: amused.

13th July, 2008. 10:13 pm. Work and weekend...

The past week was filled with turnovers at the office. Within the two months I was back, I already have eight ongoing items on my list to turnover, plus the performance feedbacks I had to finalize for my staff.

I was joking (badly) that I was filled with apple and tuna (turnovers).

Yeah, told you guys it was a bad joke.

It's a weird feeling, going to work last week. I felt half-happy, half-melancholy. It must come with the final days.

It's a bit hard to describe, I won't even try.

******

Saturday was highlighted by my friend Iana's birthday party at Balete Drive. Drinking, dancing, and billiards in the middle of one of the most haunted places in the Philippines... sounds like a Halloween movie in the making. Hanged out with NWA people for the second week in a row and I must admit that this a bit wilder than last week's party: mixes of alcohol (of which I had one glass), Avenue Q and Rent sing-a-longs, a spontaneous burst of the Voltes V ending theme song, stories of Balete drive hauntings in general and the spirits in Iana's grandmother's house in particular, and lots of drunken antics.

Carl and Miao were doing Tarot readings and I was tempted to ask for a reading. However, Carl was already drunk by that time and I'd rather not have an alcohol-influenced reading. I'm slightly torn over the new experience of having a Tarot reading and my personal fear of knowing anything in the future. I've never had my fortune told (except for fortune cookies and weight machines) and it's mainly because I don't know how I'd react to either good or bad news about my future. Honestly, I'm of the opinion that for the future, it's better to be ignorant.

******

Two more days at work. Upcoming plans:
- Cleaning up my room
- Anime marathons including finally watching Dragonball GT
- Writing
- Warcraft III

Current mood: busy.

11th July, 2008. 3:18 pm. eBay pricing weirdness

This guy is selling a mint condition Green Lantern #0 for P1200 (almost US$30). He claims "YOU WONT GET THIS COPY CHEAPER THAN THIS! BETTER THAN YOUR NEWSTAND COPY!" (sic).

Now, other than the strangeness of what the hell is he selling if it's not the newstand copy (there are no variants of GL#0), you can buy this for US$1 plus US$11 for shipping from a US eBay seller. Hardly a rare comic.

But then, if he could sell it for that price, good for him. I pity the buyer, though.

Current mood: amused.

7th July, 2008. 10:00 pm. Busy Saturday = sleepy Sunday

Stuff to do on Saturday included fixing up my auctions on eBay, meeting for Cosplay Mania, short stop at the Open Gaming Meet (which turned into a longer session than I planned), and finally to Paul's Party at Yale with the NWA peeps (where I ended up staying the night).

All this led me to fall asleep easily on Sunday for the entire afternoon. :P

Still, it was a fun weekend, highlighted by conversations on forum roleplaying with people who turned out to be Mafia (long story), some quick fun games at the OGM, drunken geeks dancing (drunken them, cause I didn't really drink :P), Carl helping a drunken Zuri with his parents' call, and Chowking dinner.

To all the new people I meet... I may still ask for your names next time we meet. ^^; Info overload.

Current mood: tired.

4th July, 2008. 6:07 pm. July 4th greetings!

Happy 4th of July to all you Americans on my Friendslist!

Happy birthday to my brother as well! We're heading out for some Japanese buffet tonight to celebrate.

Current mood: bouncy.

3rd July, 2008. 11:12 pm. More eBay...

Selling on eBay is somewhat hazardous as there's also a tendency to browse what other people are selling. I almost ended up buying a used Nintendo DS Lite before I was outbidded. Buying it would have been cool, but I don't really know if I could have afforded it since I'll be out of a job by the 15th. Yay for impulse buying!

Still continuing to sell comic books. I've expanded the collection to include some of my more prized comics.

I'm still selling some of my comics and books over at eBay:

Check them out if you're interested.

(Psst, Nathan, the Hitchhiker's Guide Radio Scripts book is up again.)

I tried writing for an entry to the horror special of PGS, but nothing came out over the past week. At least, nothing that felt chilling enough for me. Yeah, I had one or two concepts but on trying to put them into paper, I ended up writing a moody, but not altogether scary story.

Maybe another time...

***********

I did manage to finish A Lion's Tale by Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho had always been one of the better talkers in wrestling and with this book, it turned out he's one of the better writers as well. There are some laugh out loud moments in the book and some surreal ones as well. The highlights are quite numerous to mention and the only minus factor in the book seems to be that the story is not yet over. It ends with his debut on the WWE with the promo against the Rock. I would have loved to hear more about his stay here.

If nothing else, Chris Jericho is also the ultimate wrestling fanboy. You can tell from the way he talks about his heroes that he loves the job, no matter how fake it is. He's been around the world wrestling and his experiences all added to who he is today.

Thanks to Marcelle for lending it to me. :D

28th June, 2008. 11:16 pm. Galaxy Song

Another lovely ditty from Monty Python. This song was my LSS last Friday, and it's good that it was, cause the workplace just became stressful for that day that I at least had a smile on my face while working...

********

Galaxy Song
by Eric Idle, Monty Python

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough,

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour.
Thas orbiting at ninety miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars;
It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide.
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!

So, after the tough day at work, I was glad to have been invited by Marcelle [info]mistervader to the Blogger's Night at Taste Asia. He was hosting and performing magic for the night and I was his guest.

(I think I'm supposed to blog about this a bit in return for all the Coke Zero I drank and the food I ate. :P Hehe... don't say I don't fulfill debts.)

It was an interesting experience as it was the first time I went to a bloggers' event. Didn't realize there were quite a lot already and people seemed to know one another. I personally don't read that many blogs outside my friends' pages, so most of the sites plugged were new to me.

Strangely enough, one certain notorious blogger wasn't there that night. Thought it would be my first time to see him in the flesh. Not that I was looking forward to it. :P

*********

And today was spent just hanging out with a new friend and afterwards teaching accountancy to another. While I complain about stresses at work, I really love talking and teaching. No kidding. They're definite destressors.

Current mood: busy.

26th June, 2008. 10:05 pm. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life...

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
(from Monty Python, words and music by Eric Idle)

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

**********

Seriously, I want this ditty playing during my funeral...

EDIT: Wow, and just the morning after, it becomes relevant at work... X3

Current mood: amused.
