Of course- then there's the part where I share Tycho's horror.

(For anyone who might be interested.)

So- most of you know that I left my day job. (Wheeeee!) Now, I get to tread the muddy waters of being a full time MT, without a real client base. (Many, many thanks to those of you who have pointed people seeking massage in my direction, btw.)

I thought I at least owe you all an update. :)

My license FINALLY came in the mail. (Hooray!)

I have set up shop in Central Sq. (Cambridge, for you out-of-towners), and am seeing clients at my office there whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I am also working at Susan Liao Massage Therapy (soon to be Hara Wellness) a few days a week. You can see the website here: www.slmassage.com

Just yesterday, I was asked to come on board at altTHERA, a practice in downtown Boston. It's literally STEPS from the Downtown Crossing station. I'll be there two/three days a week as well.. (www.althera.com - if you're curious.) I should be starting there the week after next. (The owner is going on vacation, and thought it would be easiest to wait until she gets back..)

Anyhoo- so yeah. The real point of this post is to let you all know that I am alive, well and WORKING, even if not as often as I would like. :)

At some point in the near future, I'd like to do something celebratory to mark the transition, but I'm not sure quite what. :) I'll let you all know.

HOORAY MASSAGE!

The plusses and minuses of moving...

Ok. So- we really didn't have any plans to move this fall. Really. Moving is a hassle, and it costs money. That being said, every so often the urge hits me (usually when I'm particularly disgusted with my neighborhood) to scan craigslist for apartments.

So last night I'm doing just that, and we stumble across an ad for an apartment that SERIOUSLY tempts us both. I sent the realtor an email, and I'll probably call him later if I don't hear back. Below is the plus/minus list for this whole thing. Tell me what you think....

First:

- It's $175 more a month than we're paying now.

- It's probably less space. I definitely wouldn't have a room dedicated to massage. (The flip side of that is that the only people I'd be working on in the apt would be you all, so I wouldn't mind setting up in the spare room or something.)

- It's only one floor.

- On a slightly less accessible bus route.

- Moving is a pain in the ass.

- The move in date is 9/1. Very likely the only way to make that work would be to come home early from Maine.

However:

+ HOLY CRAP- NATURAL LIGHT! The pictures are flooded with natural light. There are GREEN plants in every room. It is a serious struggle to keep even hardy plants alive in this apartment.

+ Dishwasher!

+ More counter and cabinet space. Not a ton, but more than we have now.

+ Granite counter tops. (Ok- so that's just a sexy style plus. Sue me for being vain.)

+ A SUN ROOM.

+ A street with trees, and no visible garbage. (According to the photos on google maps, anyway.)

+ It's only one floor. No more STAIRS OF DOOM.

+ Moving, while irritating, is also sort of fun. I like unpacking in a new place. Yes, I'm a nerd.

+ It's not far. Right on the Somerville/Medford line.

+ Hardwood floors.

+ Clawfoot bathtub! (Do you know how long it's been since I took a BATH? Not a shower, but a bath? A long time.)

+ Free laundry in the basement.

+ The second bedroom has an actual door. You know, one you can close. ;)

Soooo. Yeah. Don't know if it's even still available, but we're looking in to it. Thoughts from the masses?
Insane
There was a BIRD in my house.

A BIRD.

We can only assume that when I cracked the bedroom window earlier, I left it wide enough for it to get through. I went upstairs to go to the bathroom, and Bronte had the poor thing cornered in the shower. He chased it into the bedroom, where I was able to snag him (Bronte), and toss him into the other room.

We shut ourselves in the bedroom with the bird, who was frantically flying around trying to perch on everything. I wish my camera hadn't been downstairs, because a photo would have been awesome. At any rate, we got the window all the way open, and finally shooed the little thing out.

But yeah. Bird in the house.'

All I can say is that it was a good thing I had to pee, because otherwise Bronte might have left us a present. Dead bird in the bed is never good.

Well - I guess that's it then..

But now I have my diploma!

I just like how in my previous post I stated that I never had to go back to the school unless I chose to... making it sound as though I wish to avoid the place. 72 hours later there I am, dropping off thank you cards for my teachers and picking up my diploma and transcripts. (And my final quarter grades.. straight A's again!)

So- this afternoon, I should be able to mail off my licensing application. This is both awesome and scary!

Stupid Car!!

So- on Friday, the problem with my car turned out to be the power steering pump. I needed a new one. *grumble* Not a small sum of my hard earned dollars. Not a fortune either, but yeah.

So, last night I'm driving to Watertown and I look down and gee-fun! My battery light is on!! It has been off-and-on on the fritz since then, so I brought it to the garage an hour or so ago, only to find out that my alternator is going. It's not dead YET, but it's getting there. Which means I can either press my luck and hope it holds for awhile, or drop another hefty sum and fix that too.

*grumble*

I am so not pleased.

I dropped the money to fix it, of course. I have too many important things happening this week for my car to die AGAIN.

*sigh*

Well- so much for my plans of buying a WII with my stimulus cash!!

Weird..

reading by awakencordy
So- I read a lot. Most of you know this.

I'm currently plugging through The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood.. it's having a very strange effect. I'm usually pretty good at putting a book down and leaving it until I pick it back up. That is to say, I won't be thinking about it constantly, and it won't affect me while I'm not reading it. I DO have trouble putting really good ones down at all!

Anyway- For the past two nights, I have had stressful and uncomfortable dreams full of people telling me what to do, and how to 'follow the rules'. I don't like the rules, and I don't want to follow them- but I have to. These dreams are totally stressing me out.

Now, I'm certain that I'm having them because of this book. I'm just really, REALLY surprised that this book it having such an effect on me!! Apparently I am so bothered by the content that I'm trying to deal with it in my sleep. That is VERY unusual.

Anyhow- I just thought I'd share. Anyone else have this problem when they read this book?

Gah. I hate headaches.

  • Mar. 3rd, 2008 at 4:15 PM

I have had a headache since I woke up. My phone started ringing around 7am, and it was my trainer telling me that he's been sick all weekend and would have to cancel. My first clear thought after I hung up the phone was "Dear Gods, my head hurts." I decided that that was a sign that I needed more sleep, so I went back to bed. When I did finally get up (much water and a tennis ball to the neck later) I still had a headache.

I have tried water, coffee, food, advil and self massage. My head still hurts.

As though this weren't enough, I stopped at my boss' house on the way to the office to grab something. I went up two flights of stairs to get what I needed, then went back down. This was not a difficult thing to do.. It wasn't as though it got my heart rate up.

Explain then, why all of the sudden, as I got to the bottom of the stairs, my heart started beating in a funny rhythm and felt like it was in my throat? As it did, my vision got all blurry and my head felt heavy. I bent over and took a few deep breaths, and suddenly it went away.

I have absolutely no idea what that was- but I didn't like it.

The headache, which had been receding at that point, came back full force. *sigh*

Your Score: Piglet

You scored 12 Ego, 17 Anxiety, and 11 Agency!

"It's a little Anxious," he said to himself, "to be a
Very Small Animal Entirely Surrounded by Water. Christopher
Robin and Pooh could escape by Climbing Trees, and Kanga could
escape by Jumping, and Rabbit could escape by Burrowing, and
Owl could escape by Flying, and Eeyore could escape by -- by
Making a Loud Noise Until Rescued, and here am I, surrounded by
water and I can't do anything."

You scored as Piglet!

ABOUT PIGLET: Piglet is a Very Small Animal, who used to live in his own house, a nice big tree. However, after Owl's house was blown over by a storm, he "found" Piglet's house, and Piglet didn't want to tell him that the home was already lived in. So he went to live with Pooh.

WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT YOU: You are a rather nervous person, and you tend to worry about The Worst happening. You don't really feel capable of dealing with the things that life could throw at you, and so you tend to fret about it. You are one of those people who seems to think that worrying actually accomplishes something... and your friends can't help but love you for it. Your humble manner and self-deprecating ways make your friends feel good about themselves. They want to help and protect you.

Your loving friends are always trying to encourage you to be more independent, and they are right. You need to develop a bit of self confidence and stand on your own two feet.
