Wow, I guess I should actually use my LJ account... Uh... I wish I could say that I have been way too busy to post anything on my LJ account, but that would be ridiculous. I have had so much spare time that I haven't had the slightest idea what to do with it all.
Ok... I guess now that I am writing I should include an intro...
Sorry, thats a little too boring to keep my attention so I'll save it for some other time when I get more used to this writing thing.
For the next few posts I will be writing back story stuff and just getting anyone from school up to date on everything that has happened since the school year ended.
My last couple of days at tech... Hmmm... I was bad.
When I realized that I wasn't going to be coming back and then had maybe 2 or 3 days left to "Do everything I ever wanted"... Well, lets just say I went nuts.
My misadventures included:
-Tunneling under Workman Center:
There's a door off the main tunnel that warns that It Is Alarmed: Don't Touch or Open Because TCC Will Know.
I was tempted... but I chickened out because of the flashing red [Alarm] panel (you tech folks know what I mean, think workman 101). Other than that, the tunnel was not that interesting. I didn't stay long because of myths of motion detectors that ring campus police. Maybe I someday when I visit I'll go back down there.
Other than that the tunnels by Jones and Jones annex were muddy as usual and congested with all sorts of cables so I decided to run around above ground for a while.
-Workman Center roof
HAHAHAHAHAA! The sight of people walking down below you like ants, while you stare at them from the god-like heights of workman's roof was almost too much for me. (I wonder if God is ever tempted to drop a loogie on unsuspecting passerby?)
-Sneaking around conspicuously while wearing obvious clothing
Its fun! Creep from bush to bush like you are in a Scooby Doo episode. Just try it sometime, if you get a kick out of knowing people are thinking "What the hell is that guy doing?" then I recommend this to maintain a healthy level of insanity in your life.
-Creeping around unfinished buildings
Also fun... I explored basements, main floors, roofs, and balconies. It should also be noted that my party was not the only one exploring the site. I have never heard such horrible sneaking in my life! I think these people managed to trip over everything that could make a loud noise in the whole place. As expected, the noise drew official attention and my buddies and I were forced to dive for cover as campus police spotlighted the area. During a lapse in the searchlight we ran for safety, a load clatter announced our presence but we were long gone by the time anyone figured out there were people in that direction.
-Looking down at passerby from above the gym
Similar to Workman's roof but on the other side of campus.
-Late night residence hall fun
After such an eventful night, I would never have imagined that the best part of the night was yet to come. I was walking back into an unnamed residence hall with my partners in crime, when I heard THIS!
guy : "Big cow, big cow, big cow, big cow....." (he may have been saying pig cow it was kinda hard of hear"
girl: "Oh yeah! Come on!"
this last was moaned rather loudly, interspersed with the big cow chant.
guy2: "Hurry!" (a SECOND DUDE? This was too much!)
girl: "Go, Go, YEaaaaaaaAH!" (also moaned)
At this point we were overcome with our mirth and had to run to a place where we could safely laugh ourselves to tears.
For those of you not familiar with tech let me reconstruct what my friends and I overheard.
We may have overheard a particularly spirited threesome. While it is not altogether uncommon for people to have loud sex at tech (in fact there are several famous incidents in MSA which are worth telling... ask Lacey), I believe that this is (sadly) the less likely of two explanations.
I believe that it had to be someone playing video games with two observers.
VIDEO GAMES?
I know... just goes to show how strange a place Tech really is.
The summer started out the next day with me packing up a U-haul with my (and my brother's) stuff. I spent one of the most nerve-wracking nights ever driving that rickety clunker through twisty turny mountain roads (because that was the only route U-haul recommended... stupid mileage limit!) and arrived in Phoenix at an unholy hour of the early morning. After returning the truck I got to take the Phoenix bus system back from the other side of town. I met several weird people when doing this but the one that stands out was this chemist guy who noticed that I was reading a book on quantum and asked me if young people know how to have fun anymore (what can I say, I just want to be prepared for quantum 2 next semester and I dont feel that Dr. Winn's class was satisfactory).
All in all it was a pretty boring return, no fanfare, no confetti.
The next week pretty much consisted of me keeping my girlfriend company as she recovered from surgery.
On a high note, I did get to live with one of my best friends, Aaron, (my sensei) so it was martial arts, video games, and kick ass moronic banter all the time. Other good times included stupid time at T's Billiards where we would be idiots while drinking beer, shooting pool, and trying to out insult each other (while we waited for our DD to sober up :( ).
After about a week of this it hits me...
This is the first real break I have had from academics since...
Oh yes, I have been in school without anything longer than a 1 month break for 9 YEARS.
I start to feel like a slacker...
How come no-one has ever told me how good this feels! This brings whole new meaning to Office Space!
For a while I felt guilty... I had so much spare time I didn't know what to do with it (see comments on Quantum studies above). I would like to say that I found some great new hobby to fill the gaping void in my soul that was created by the end of my studies...
But that would be a lie!
Does converting oxygen into carbon dioxide count as a hobby?
Oh well...
