New journal is up, now. The name is teleological1.
See you there :)
On the off-chance you haven't, already, let me know if you'd like to be added. We shall see if my scattered brains can remember to do the friends-only thing.

I have decided to delete this journal. It's been a long time, a lot has happened (break ups, make-ups, travelling to China), and so on, but I think now's a good time for a fresh start. I'm probably going to start a new one, because I like posting random silliness about movies and the little things going on in my life.
As I've never had one, I might make it a friends-only thing. If you'd like to be in on such a thing, please do let me know.
But yeah. This is this journal's last week. This time next Monday, it'll be gone. If you'd like to keep hearing from me via this medium, let me know.

Y'know, I like Marvel's Civil War event. I really do. But I think the most amazing thing about it all is that they've made Speedball interesting. I mean, seriously. Speedball, of all people.
No idea what's going on with his powers or that "sleeper cell" storyline (Namor's hand in the matter? Hard to tell.), but I'm liking it, so far. Can't wait to see where it goes, next.
In other news, saw Lady in the Water, last night. I think the best thing to come out of that project was the teaser trailer with the violin music (that's one of my favorite trailers, thus far). That said, the little cartoon intro segment was awfully good, and the guy who plays Cleveland Heep gave a surprisingly good performance. Too much of the GMPC...er...M. Night, tho'. Casting himself as "the Vessel" was a bit much. I couldn't tell during some of the scenes whether it was actually suppossed to be nighttime or if his ego was eclipsing the sun. Gotta give him credit for going ahead with the project, tho'. I mean, it seems like he risked a lot for it simply for love of the story and out of the need to try something at least a little bit different.
Young Soon's probably my favorite character, tho :)
Next on the list of movies to see: The Descent
Now, however, is lunchtime. *bamf* |

Check this out: The Amazing Screw-on Head. It's by Mike "Hellboy" Mignola, and basically takes place in civil-war times. Screw-on head is, as far as I can tell, Hellboy's predecessor in what would become the BPRD.
Favorite line: "The only way I can know everything you know...is to smoke you!"
David Hyde Pierce does the voice of Emperor Zombie, by the bye.
Watch it! Vote on it! Bask in its weirdness!

Got my last check from echostar, today. They saw fit to ignore the hours from my last day, dock me for no apparent reason, and otherwise be fuckers about the accounting on my last check. Fuck 'em. Just makes me think that getting the hell out of there was a good idea, that.
In other news, lease signing on the squirrel hill place is tomorrow. Whee!

Yay! New keyboard! I have a new keyboard! Wow, but it's fast. I hadn't realized how slow my old one was.
In other news, I'm moving. Gonna be there August 1.
Also, I'm getting back into exercise. I've promised myself to do as many push-ups and situps as I can every morning after waking, and I'm going to get back out and run ASAP, especially since I found this pair of running shoes that I got for Xmas whilst in china that I've never used. Yay, new shoes! Or almost-new shoes! Never-used shoes?
And I'm studying up on Calc, Physics, and EE because my brain needs stimulation and I want to get back into all three. It's a neat time, really.
Also, my new job is cool. calm, no phone-work, neat people, easy and quick to get to, more money...good all around :) Granted, I can't do it forever, but it's a little more pleasant of a holding pattern while I get other things together.
And now: socialization! Right after a shower, that is.

So, the navy thing went well enough. The pitch seems to boil down to "money, money, money, five years of your life, money money, five years," and such. I've decided I definitely don't want to do subs, tho'. I got a little stir-crazy after five minutes in that cramped frikkin' place.
Ships? Dunno. See, I asked my instincts on this one, again, and what I basically got was something that felt like doom. Lately, I've been considering doing this and my blood runs cold. I guess if *anything* means something, that means something. Still, it sucks a bit. I mean, I don't currently have any other offers that are that kind of lucrative. Still, I'm gonna keep looking.
Be nice if I could do language and get paid like that, y'know? Fucking unmarketable skills...
In other news, I've invited a number of people to myspace, lately. That was fun enough.
Oh, and I'm checking out three different places to live, come August 1. This is because the person who was running the last place, the one we were *going* to live in, turned out to be Michelle "tape up the holes in the walls and cover them with paint" Rice, the ***** who owned the Cato St. house. This is what I came home to, yesterday.
Oh yeah, might have a laptop, soon. Might not, tho'. Parentals are notoriously unreliable. Still, it's a nice thought.
Tomorrow is Cleveland Day. I'm going into Cleveland, you see, in the hopes of visiting a couple friends. More on that as that develops.
And now: naptime! *bamf* |

So, I've again come to the conclusion that my left brain, the rational part of me, doesn't make decisions. It analyzes decisions and presents options, but it's the right brain, the emotional part, the rational, superstitious, instinctual side, that does the deciding. Realizing this is a little bit weird, perhaps a little bit nuts of me, but there it is.
So, the time has come again to ask myself how I feel about certain things, and to move on the information.
Nuclear power as a potential career is one of those things, military service is another, the difficulties inherent in going back to college is on the list, as is my idea of a higher power that knows better than I do what is best for me, or what I should be doing with my life.
So I'm working on turning my analytical brain off, right now, so the other side can come through and I can get some deciding done.
That's me, anyway. *bamf* |

| | "Seed of Memory" by Terry Reid | ] | Kuan-yin, goddess of mercy, renowned as one of the most beautiful characters in the chinese collective unconscious, didn't bind her feet. Foot binding was in for quite some time, and yet the image of the goddess didn't change. Lesson learned: real women don't bend mindlessly to fashion, especially when it demands they modify their bodies.

Oh yeah, the guy who played Davy Jones is Bill Nighy, the old musician who sang on Love Actually and was the elder vampire in the first Underworld movie.
I just like the idea of Davy Jones singing to the accompanyment of his various sea-beasties, myself.

| Thoughts of the moment |
[Jul. 8th, 2006|10:23 am] |
I need to get back to Cleveland for a day or so. Got a couple people I want to catch up with :)
Pirates was awesome. Really, really awesome. Long, and it took a while to find its legs, but really frikkin awesome. Very Empire Strikes Back in feel, too. I won't ruin any plot points, but I *will* say that I can't wait for the third movie.
Go see Brick, the indie film-noir set in high school drug culture starring the kid from Third Rock From The Sun. I haven't seen a performance like that since Donnie Darko, and I almost didn't recognize the blonde chick from Lost as his ex-g/f.
Got my very own copy of The Ethical Slut, last night. Figured I should at least read through it, y'know?
I wonder if anyone's going to make Rafa Nadal/Andre Agassi slash fic. Do people do things like that?
"Long Pork" = Human Flesh (cooked and prepared for consumption). Remember, kids: if you're going to eat human flesh, get it well-done so as to cook out all the diseases that might be lurking, therein. Not that we advocate cannibalism. In fact, we emphatically *don't* advocate cannibalism, as it is icky and all sorts of immoral, but yeah: don't eat rare long pork.
That's all for now. *bamf* |

So, it seems the interview went well. They seem to want me, and are willing to pay me more than I'm getting, get me off incoming call customer support (whee!), and give me a more reasonable schedule (one that ends at 8pm). It's temp-to-perm, so I'll get paid weekly, too (which is a bonus), and I'll be able to work a few things in because of the timing, too. All in all, pretty neat :)
So yeah, thanks for the well-wishes :-D *bamf* |

So, apparently Spike TV's adapted the Blade comics and movies into a weekly series. Why? Because there is *always* a serial *somewhere* on basic or cable TV that has vampires in it. It's necessary, it seems. That said, it seems alright, from what I'm seeing, right now. Lots of gnashing of teeth, the obligatory guy-with-english-accent, but fun.
job interview, tomorrow. wish me luck! *bamf* |
