Happy Happy Joy Joy! ;)

Felis dorkus
I have decided that I spend too much time on this journal complaining. Therefore, here are ten things I am happy about at the moment and in no particular order of importance:

1. Still being employed. Hehe! (That one comes up right away since I'm in the midst of getting ready for tomorrow's classes.)
2. A. In sum total. ♥ ♥ ♥
3. My sunflowers -- a few at least -- survived and are blooming!! One is even almost as tall as I am. Wow! I should post a picture.
4. Recovering from surgery. Things were rocky for a little while and will be different, but I'm almost back to my old self in many ways.
5. NO MORE PERIODS!!!!! EVAH!!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
6. My kitties and ferretsies, who are if not all totally healthy, at least currently stable. :) And I lurvs them.
7. Being able to pay all our bills, at least for the moment.
8. Having fandom to cheer me up. I am loving re-watching Farscape, and I just finished watching Serenity again, sitting here with A whilst working on my laptop...
9. LOLcats. Sometimes they just make my day.
10. Having found a way to relax in gardening and landscaping, of all the weird things. I can dig in the dirt and listen to my iPod and I'm happy in the moment. Weird. :)

So, happies to you all!

Cute on a Stick and FML!!!

Leeloo!
For those of you wondering what the heck the FML is, it's the "ferret mailing list," a long-standing community of some of the most ferret-knowledgeable and VIP people around as far as rescues/shelters, veterinary work and knowledge, and general info go. I'm a member of the FML, though I very rarely post (and I'm certainly no VIP, LOL!).

We who lurvs our mustelids tend to have a great interest in other related mustelids as well, such as Mustela nigripes, the black-footed ferret, an extremely endangered animal.

Most of us have been watching the National Zoo's "ferret-cam" with rapt attention since Georgia, the female with the cam in her nest box, became pregnant and gave birth to a kit on June 20.

GO HERE: http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/NorthAmerica/default.cfm?cam=BFF to see Georgia and the now... 7 week old (?) kit. He's gonna be huge. And he's CUTE ON A STICK.

Now for the spectacular news -- we began referring to him very early on as "Peanut," and someone suggested we gather donations to get the right to name him. Well, we've done so, and he is now officially PEANUT!!!

YAY FOR THE FML!!

This is a true story, and it's been all over the internet, but I wanted to post it here too.

I just have to say that despite the melodramatic song, I was flat out in tears by the end, and I don't mean just a sniffle -- they were the good kind of tears, at least. :)

Let's face it.

I haven't vidded in months. I have three or four half-finished or barely-begun Farscape vids sitting on some of my myriad hard drives, and I'm... completely paralyzed.

Same with fic. I started a fic that I have a definite plot-line for, even, for the lovely and wonderful [info]ladycallie's Christmas wish list, and I got about 8 pages written, then... stopped. Yeah, way back in December! :p

I'm re-watching the series, and I'm recalling a lot that I had forgotten. Unfortunately I'm only up to PK Tech Girl since I'm watching it on my iPod, so no telling how long it will take...

Augh! I need inspiration! LC needs her fic! I wanna make more vids!

Let's face it. I want more Farscape. Not comics, not webisodes with tangential characters. New, real Farscape. J/A. Shippiness and peril and heroic rescues and bizarre settings and great aliens and...

And there isn't any.

And there is also nothing that even begins to fill that hole for me, and I don't think there ever will be. Farscape has ruined me. Nothing else will ever match up.

Woe.

Week in the life poopout

Okay, so obviously I didn't do too well on this week in the life thing... Unsurprisingly. I did take a few more pix and will post them at some point.

Le sigh. Ennui sets in. Melodrama ensues. *g*

Week in the Life, Day 3

XF Movie
OMG, I've kept this up for three whole days. A is already tired of my photo-snapping. LOL!

1. You must take between 6 and 8 new photographs per day.
2. Your WITL must be consecutive. No skipping days.
3. You must post your photographs at the end of that day, some time after the last picture is taken.
4. Each photograph must have the time taken and a title, with no other explanation.

Day Three! )

Once again, rules are:
1. You must take between 6 and 8 new photographs per day.
2. Your WITL must be consecutive. No skipping days.
3. You must post your photographs at the end of that day, some time after the last picture is taken.
4. Each photograph must have the time taken and a title, with no other explanation.

Day Two! )

So, thunder rumbles, I'm going to review my notes for tomorrow's class, and Sonic ice is nummy! Heh.

So, since I went back to school today, I thought I'd start this thing. Will I finish it? Who knows! Heh. At least it's only one class, from 12:45pm to 2:20pm, then I can come home again... more or less...

Okay! Rules are:
1. You must take between 6 and 8 new photographs per day.
2. Your WITL must be consecutive. No skipping days.
3. You must post your photographs at the end of that day, some time after the last picture is taken.
4. Each photograph must have the time taken and a title, with no other explanation.

Oh, what a life I lead... More tomorrow, LOL! ;)

conFUNKshu -- er, conVENtion!

Tick - SPOON!
Hehe. Well, I suppose my captivity ended this weekend, since we got to go to the small, first-time con in Omaha! I am sore from spending the day out yesterday, but we had a good time, though there was a dearth of Farscape fans... *sniffle* There was a huge contingent of Star Wars peeps, and of course Trek is endemic. And Denise Crosby was the media guest, which was nifty!

All in all it was small, but that made it pretty intimate and nice, because we didn't have to fight crowds. Denise Crosby had a table set up in the dealers' area and we got to actually chat with her for a while, etc. She is really a very nice person (and she looks great, too! Hehe). She was sooooo patient, sweet, and kind to even the most rambling and annoying fan (of which there were a few -- I was not one, I hope -- I get so shy :p).

Anyway, lookie behind the cut for pix and stuff. And A decided to let me show her face!!! =:0

Go further if ye dare! )

All in all, a day well spent. Now I need a few more to recover. But I'm going back to school tomorrow... Time flies! (like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana...)

So maybe I'll do this -- sounds nifty, and I've gotta go back through my flist to see who else has done it! Buuutt... I think I'll wait till there is an actual life to document. Right now I'm not doing... anything. Srsly.

Waiting for my body to heal is exactly as exciting as waiting for a sleeping pill to kick in. I'm off the oxycodone (strong enough to be a horse tranquilizer!) and on Darvocet and ibuprofen, so I'm no longer too stoned to care that I'm healing from an internal attack by a cuisinart. I'm now in the realm of hormonal and heinously bored but not up to doing anything about it yet.

Next week I will be going back to work (GRRRROAANNNN....), ready or not, so maybe then there'll be a life to merit being recorded in pics. :p One summer-session class, every day for almost two hours. This could be good, but if my mood and concentration don't improve, it could be an epic fail. I like teaching this class, too! :p

I mean, my big news so far is that
1. Mom deemed me no longer in need of her Mom-ness (*wahh!*) and left for home on the 1st (although when my father set the toaster on fire on about Day 7, I suppose I should have concluded that she would need to leave soon to prevent him from becoming even more of a danger to himself and/or others);
2. Yesterday I went to the Walgreen's down the street on my own, first time out alone since surgery. I bought tape. Wo0t.; and
3. I realize now that I am one of the most neurotic patients ever. Really, this should come as no surprise, yet somehow it does. My doc and the nurses are soooo kind and patient...

Meh. Surely next week will be better, and I will document the adventure. Heh.

J/A - Heeee!
I'm feeling well enough to sit around on my butt doing silly internet things now, so yay for memeage!! :D Even if I am epically boring and having trouble coming up with anything interesting...

Post 3 things you've done that you believe nobody else on your F-list has done.
* If anybody responds with "I've done that," add another thing.
* Encourage your friends to paste this into their own journal to list the unique things they've done.

1. Got run over by a riding lawn mower as a child. (Yep, got scars n stuffz.)

2. Taught a classroom full of very bored college students Monty Python's "Bruces" Philosophers' Drinking Song in a desperate attempt to make sure they were still breathing.

2a. Did I mention it was my father who ran me over with the lawn mower? (I'm running out of interesting anecdotes.)

3. Interacted with and/or petted and played with many a lovely, exotic zoo animal, including a very sweet coati who later, after hitting puberty, turned unpredictable and attacked A the (then) keeper so badly the emergency room called in Dr. Shark Bite to sew up the wounds...

That's all I got. :p

More frelling STORMS!

  • Jun. 29th, 2008 at 2:55 PM
John - fuuuuck - by selluinlaer
I think someone has it in for us. Once again we were under the gun and made CNN. It wasn't even a tornado, just what some people call a "land hurricane." A thunderstorm with straight-line winds that gusted, some have said, to 100mph. It blew roofs off, downed huge trees everywhere, killed two teenagers when a tree fell on their car, and left a lot of people without power. It damaged the Qwest Center in Omaha where the Olympic swim trials are being held, and that was one hell of a welcome to the midwest for the swimmers! And some people won't have power for possibly another week -- the Red Cross has set up shelters.

We were lucky. We didn't lose any trees or even major branches, and the just-patched roof held. We were without power for about 9-10 hours, but apparently we're lucky to have it back.

We knew it was coming because the sirens sounded, and it blew through very abruptly then was gone in about 10 minutes. Seriously, it was ONE isolated storm. So weird.

I am ready for this year's storm season to be over. :p

Well. That was an adventure I hope never to repeat.

I am finally home from the hospital. And oxycodone is my friend. :p

flist friendly cut: things didn't quite go as planned. WARNING for the squeamish: surgical pics included. )

So now I'm home, minus my reproductive system, and with good drugs, just really exhausted. Mom is here to help, which has been great. I love mom. She bought me a stuffed ducky and I named her Endora. *snortgiggle* A thinks I am morbid. LOL! But A stayed with me overnight and was wonderful in her usual A way. I love A, too.

Signing off now. ;)

Surgery is now tomorrow morning...

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

I'll be so happy when this is over with. They're keeping me overnight, so I'll be home on Thursday sometime.

So, I'm basically signing off until afterwards. I will "see" you all a couple of days and one less uterus later! Bwah!

More Tornadoes. Geez.

John - uh oh - by graphicalrum
We are less than an hour away from the Boy Scout ranch where the four kids were killed last week. That was so awful. I think at least two were actually from here, and their funerals are/were here.

What an evening that was. There were funnel clouds all over the place, but luckily none that were within a mile or less of us. The sirens did sound, but we did what you learn to do -- we ignored them in favor of watching the television, since the sirens sound for the whole city even if only a small part is affected. That's basically how we spent the evening -- watching the weather on television (since nothing else was on except continually updating weather, storm spotters, and weatherpeeps talking) and waiting to see if/when we'd actually have to get our butts down into the basement. We were prepared, but luckily it didn't happen for us.

The meteorologist on our local station said that this outbreak, which was Wednesday and stretched across a few states here in the midwest, had fifty-one confirmed tornadoes within it. I'm done for the season, thankyouverymuch.

Totally unrelated, my mommy will be here tomorrow! Yay! And surgery Tuesday! Yay and boo at the same time! :P

Tornado

  • Jun. 8th, 2008 at 5:10 PM
Blackadder - clucking bell
An F2 tornado hit us at 2:30 this morning. Luckily, we escaped without damage. Others weren't so lucky. Tornadoes don't often hit the actual city, and this one was "only" an F2, but it relocated a lot of roofs quite effectively... Worse, the sirens sounded after the damned thing was already on the ground. It took us a good 5-10 minutes for me to get A out of bed and for us to get everyone into the basement and safe. That's not enough time! Skeery.

ETA: On tonight's news, the local meteorologist discussed the lack of warning. He said there was a total of less than four minutes between the time the distinctive "bow echo" formed and the tornado touched down. No wonder we had no warning. Yikes!

...Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
