| 2:13 pm | Wow, the Grand Arcade is rather squibby, isn't it? I like the air and the space and the height, but 30 empty units out of 52? And several of the ones that are there have just moved in from Petty Cury. And *not a single shop* that looks interesting to go into. Several of the empty units have signs up saying "tedious menswear coming soon", but there's nothing at all inspiring to look at. The best bit is the fishtank in the John Lewis window. (John Lewis was open already; not part of this tranche.) Good. The infrastructure's significantly nicer than I expected, and I hated the thought of all that space being full of worthless chain outlets. If they can't sell the space they're going to have to slash the rents until interesting local shops can move in. Tick. I think it's a bit of a con to have "Central Library" signage up when it's clearly not going to open for months (and when half of it's going to be a "Mediatheque" anyway). |
