Today I heard a squeaking noise coming from the garage. Because the cats always bring birds in there, I thought it may be that and went to investigate/free it.
As soon as the door was open Izzy shot in carrying something that was squealing. It was a baby hare. I eventually managed to wrestle her off it, and it lay, not able to get up kicking its back legs uselessly. It was a horrible thing to see.
I then picked it up with kitchen towel and marched straight into the garage (both the cats were inside so I thought it the safest place at hand). I then sat with it twitching its whiskers and cried for a short while (whut). Hearing an animal shriek like that had a horrible affect on me, it's like how a baby in pain must sound like. It seriously rattled my nerves.
I placed it in a cardboard box with a blanket and left it to calm down. Throughtout the afternoon it's moved a little bit, but still very frightened.

Tried giving it some milk and water with a bit of weetabix which didn't work (surprisingly). Just read a page on caring for orphaned rabbits/hares and it says "
Cow's milk... is not suitable and will likely cause death". I need to feed it esbilac, something I have never heard of before(?!) I don't even know how old it is, so I wouldn't know how what dosage to give it anyway.
Its front paw seems injured, but not externally(its back legs work fine).
I can't put it back in the field because a)It's pouring down, and b) it'll get caught again if it's injured.
I know its parents live in the field behind the house. Just last night a big gorgeous hare went running around outside my house.
The RSPCA are usually useless when it comes to this, I've known people who've had their cats bring baby rabbits in, they've rang them, and all they've said was 'there's nothing we can do'. Hmph. £2 a month for whut now?
My heart's breaking, if this baby dies on me I'll never forgive myself :C
