the ups

Things Occurred!

I quit a terrible job and feel awesome for being the cool-headed one. Take it up your ass, capitalist establishment! Seriously though, this was a non-paying turd of a job. Lesson learned: make sure that at the very first scent of trouble you lock your employer in with a solid contract that specifies exactly what you are being paid for. Also, Hour and Wage Services is your friend.

I have a new, awesome, spontaneously spunky roommate who has the most laid-back dog in the world. Seriously, she rotates at her midsection. This is unprecedented, and not in an exorcist kind of way... more like, a Benny Hill fast-motion quality. She came with a matching picnic table and enjoys eating.

It's hot out now. Hot and sunny. Naturally, I gravitated down to the basement, where it is cool and dark. My attention span has been having mad swings, leading me to play through 25 hours of Chrono Trigger while not doing my laundry. In the midst of this whole "becoming an adult" thing, it's comforting to know that things are pretty much the same, just more digbag.

holy temperature batman

Its 11pm and its still above 60F outside. The night seems so alive before and especially after spinning staff. A cat rummages through the digcloset, making a mime cry 7000 miles away. The next three days are set to hit close to 90F, bringing with them much-needed sunniness.

Finally, things make sense again. Thanks sun!

Baby Dropping. Moral relativism at its finest.

The Thin Red Line

There are two types of people in this world: those who will grasp for words and inevitably reach the word 'God', and those who make up their own new words when the edge of reality is reached. They both spill blood, they both live with unconsciously-manifested delusions of the conscious mind... both metaphorically and literally, they do what they do. Both types are part of humanity.

Some people trust that logic is the best path to salvation, others disagree and instead believe that the divine truth basks in a sea of pure chaos, its secrets unravelable by humans. There are those who believe in a being in the sky, those who believe in many, and those who believe in none at all.

There are those who believe in nothing and who will vehemently contradict anything that they have previously said solely for the sake of preserving that which is The Now. These people undoubtedly fight a lot. We'd expect them to, at certain times, have a pretty violent society. At times, they probably beat their children, and when their children get older, they probably return the favor. The best conditions to live in? No, but in these conditions, these people live. This example may be slightly convoluted, but hear the rest of this out before you call me a hypothetical question-asker.

Many times in history, whole swaths of civilization have been driven away from the safety of their homes and run into the hills, the swamps, the deserts, wherever... people as a whole have even been driven behind walls, to live until something else happens. From the inside, it would seem to them that their swath of humanity, their religion, culture -- that which makes them distinct and whole and good and stuff has been destroyed. Battlestar Galactica, the Sanctuary District from DS9, the Jews in Warsaw. These groups of people have desperation written all over their faces... they're witnessing the truth of their own mortality. One final division before I get where I'm going with this: those who have hope for the future will continue to have children, while the rest will find their Quietus(tm) (Children of Men, WATCH IT), and blink out of existence forever.

Men of the man in the sky do not give up hope and so would never force genocide on a people (at least the true followers wouldn't). Those who follow Darwin would have to agree; nature is best at sorting out the genes, so we have no place interfering in the affairs of other humans. This big block of violent child-rearers, well, they have an inalienable right to procreation, we can't just cut their balls off. Religions of non-interference would also agree to forego this act of genocide. And so finally we come to the bottom of the moral barrel here: egotistical Social Darwinists. I'll lump the lost followers of Dogma in this batch too, for good measure.

From this cesspool of morals, there exist some people who wouldn't just forego genocide, they'd genocide for ego. If you're one of those people who leads with your ego, well, take this as you will. Me? I just trust my gut, and right now, it wants me to empty it. No, I'm not being figurative.

mind juice

The heavy burden of unshared knowledge pulls down with a gravity so intense that singular collapse is all but imminent; a mind with no outlet has no choice but to curl inwards unto itself, creating a swirling vortex of indecision. What to do about it? Drop all insecurities, blow up the dam, and flourish in the cascade.

day1

Seemingly simple, my viscous fluid percolates with namaste -- the melody of science and the harmony of naturalism blend into a single rhythm, simultaneously clear of and completely open to all outside influences.  Presently, my thoughts mediate with those of Persig; eyes open, curiousity surging.

environmentals

Ok, so picture this. You're on a tour of some underground tunnels near a hydro plant, narrated by a docent with a monotonous, yet... very interesting voice. Descriptions of the workers who built this structure, of their toil in the muck and the sand, of the great economy the plant would burst forth into the surrounding region and blah-dy blah, blah bla-di-dy blah blah blah. You've been wandering the endless curves and dark corridors for what seems like an eternity and so far, nothing too fancy -- then you come across the Vanishing Point.

It would be so fucking flabbergastingly joyous to get there and just wander around aimlessly.
