| MARCH ON! my personal strike on music videos |
[21 Feb 2008|03:43pm] |
Starting this March '08, I will stop making music videos.
Unless either of these two conditions are met; one, that I am paid duly for the effort that I give. Secondly, if you are a REAL independent artist I truthfully love and respect.
CD and I are on the same page on this one. I don’t think record companies and/or artists recognize how much we contribute to the local music scene. We give bands their image, a venue to visually interpret their music into a readily accessible medium. And with MYX and MTV continually gathering thousands of viewers everyday, music videos are still the best way for these artists to bring their music to their audiences.
I think our group (prod madnez and isk prod) has proven enough to the industry. We make you look good. We pour all our time and effort, even our hearts into these music videos. But at the end of the day, we have to earn money from it. We also have to be practical. We deal with unbelievably low budgets, and still deliver high-quality, high-concept videos. The only real way of making these music videos, is to sacrifice our talent fees.
I also know there will be the next batch of music video makers. I was there too; trying to prove myself to the industry. But I hope they won't have to go thru the same difficulties we are going thru. That's just a waste of the amazing pool of talent that we have in this country.
I also understand I might lose work over this, but I guess I'll just suffer the consequences. Its also looking out for people I work with and truthfully respect in the music video industry. We love doing this. We love music and appreciate the artistry. We are real fans of the local music scene. It is an honor for us to do these music videos for you. But regrettably, we cannot do this for a living.
If you agree with me on this one, please post it on your blog. Support your local music video industry. March on!
