Happy birthday Ate Tena! I don't know how to do big obnoxious sparkly text, so here you go instead! (Personally I like it better, haha.)

Home again.

Finally after about two months in San Diego, I'm back home up in the bay. Unfortunately I start classes tomorrow. =( The good thing though is that my first classes are in the facility in my town, so I don't have to drive that far.

In any case, the luau for my grandma went pretty well. She loved the fact that everyone was there, she seemed to enjoy my sisters' and my dancing, and she liked the updated cousin picture that we all gave her. All in all, I'd say that it was a good day.

...I really shouldn't be enjoying the Jonas Brothers CD as much as I am right now.

EDIT in the morning:
Jeez, I haven't required a sweater in the morning since spring! I am loving this!

I can feel it burning!

what happened to andrae?
Today's afternoon was spent over at PB and Belmont Park. I was looking for a pareau for my lola's luau coming up, so we ended up eating over at Belmont.

Then I acquired a very sexy Tarzan back tan. Only one side of my back (spaghetti strap and all) got burned. The other not so much.

May I mention that I'm pretty sure that this burn was the result of sitting outside in the sun eating rather than lying on the beach?

What the heck.

Weird news.

I like to read weird news just like any other person, but an inflatable church is a bit much even for me.

What the eff David Blaine.

Sore throat.

what happened to andrae?
Screaming my lungs out three days ago at Six Flags Magic Mountain resulted in a sore throat yesterday carrying on to today. It's getting better though. It was pretty funny acting out what I was trying to say yesterday, but staying quiet is much harder than I thought. I ended up just talking quietly the whole time.

So yes, Magic Mountain last Friday, Disneyland last Saturday. And awesome food all weekend -- Shinsengumi ramen, Mickey waffles at Plaza Inn, Blue Bayou filet mignon. Good times. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and of course my inner child shrieked with joy. The last time we stayed at there, I was maybe... six or so? My sisters and I remembered how my parents went all out that year -- I had the autograph book and everything, we ate at Goofy's Kitchen, etc. That was such a long time ago. Lately my brother-in-law has been feeling ambitious, so he wants to try for Orlando for New Year's. We'll see.

Only bad thing is that I got a sunburn on my nose and chest.

--

Summer is almost over now. My grandma's luau is coming up at the middle of the month, so my sisters and I have to get cracking with the dances. And then I start school soon after. I'm looking forward to going back home; I'm a bit homesick. =(

Do you have a remarkable phobia? Does your phobia have a large impact on your life?

The unofficial name for mine is trypophobia, otherwise known as an unnatural or irrational fear of holes, specifically tiny holes in asymmetrical clusters. Even just pictures of things like lotus seed pods, honeycombs, whole swiss cheese blocks, and osteoporosis are enough to send me looking immediately the other direction rubbing my arms for comfort in fetal position. I wonder how that last one will work, since I'm planning on going into nursing.

My cousin and I were talking about this a few weeks back, if I remember correctly.

Ugh, just the thought of it gives me the heebie-jeebies. Happy place... happy place...

Why am I still awake?

awesome!
So today was my register day for classes. To this moment I still don't understand why I was priority "Returning Student" rather than "Continuing Student." That's pretty lame, because by the time I got to my computer, all of the anatomy sections were filled, and they don't waitlist. I'm hoping to crash one with an 8am lab on TTh, Because MW are my psychology and chemistry classes, and those are at the Vallejo center. I just hope that enough people sign up for that chem class so that it doesn't get canceled.

I do have a back-up plan in case I can't crash an anatomy class; but I figure the sooner I get it out of the way, the better.

In any case, no class on Fridays! This will be a welcome break for me.

Of course, knowing me, I'll probably feel bad so I'd either work or volunteer that day or something.

My cousin's getting married in two days! I'm really happy for him. His fiancee is really nice and she fits in with our family well. It's a big event too... Like what, 250 guests were invited, I think? Well, it's an event to look forward to. Any girly-girl loves getting all dolled up no matter what the occasion. I'm certainly no exception.

After daily practice for Lola's luau in August, I've realized how much I miss dancing. I really would like to get back into it! Perhaps when the semester starts. Anyway, considering they're all dances I've never learned before, I'd say my progress has been pretty good for about two weeks of practice. We basically finished learning the kahiko today -- that's actually the one I was concerned most about, as Ate Macie will be chanting. That means just Ate Nina and I will be the ones dancing for that particular number. I'll need to practice calling out the verses though. My biggest fear is my kahea coming out in the form of a question.

"Ae ula noweo?"

Yeah, not cool.

But there's a nice variety, I think. One kahiko, one auana, one Tahitian aparima, and two kind of Hollywood-ish luau songs: Little Brown Gal and the Hukilau song.

It's a shame I can't do Tahitian otea anymore. We're wearing the hip tassels for the aparima, so it would have looked really good. =( Oh well.

At the end of the month I'll be getting my nerd on. Comic-Con is always something to look forward to, even just to hang out. I don't dig the $5 convention center pizza slices though.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, and I finally got around to watching Silk, that raunchy Keira Knightley movie about the French couple and the Japanese concubine. The cinematography was great, but the actor's performances were mediocre at best. I don't know, maybe it was just strange because Michael Pitt's character was completely entranced by this "sensuous exotic" Japanese woman, but it was really hard for me to believe that. Maybe it was her makeup or something, but she looked like she was about 14 years old. I felt like a pedo watching it, and that says a lot.

Best part of the movie though? Hongo Kanata as random village boy. He's a cutie. I was pretty upset with what they did to him though. =(

How ugly.

So I'm supposed to register for classes next week and I've already laid out my schedule. It's not looking very nice.

intermediate chem - MWF; 10a-10:50a lec & W 2p-4:50p lab
music appreciation - TTh; 9:30a-10:50a
anatomy - TTh; 12:30p-1:50p lec & 2p-4:50p lab

That means the three "middle" days of the week will be spent on campus until 5 o'clock. Ugh, all to take somewhat decent instructors, I guess.

-

So yesterday I finally finished watching (the latter half of) The Tudors. Honestly though, I was just waiting for them to behead Anne Boleyn. Of course now that she's dead, what are they going to do for the rest of the show? Especially considering his wife after her, Jane Seymour, was supposedly his only "true" wife, where will the conflict be for season 3?

Also, isn't one of the points of the show to display the young, athletic, HAWT trysts of Henry VIII? If they're really going to cover the rest of his wives, they're going to eventually put him in the fatsuit, and no offense intended, but... Jonathan Rhys Meyers and fatsuit sex just won't be very appealing. =/

Writer's Block: Choose a Power

If you could have the power to fly, be invisible, or teleport anywhere, which would you choose?

View other answers

Hmm, I wouldn't care about being invisible. I'd prefer to either fly or teleport. I'd say fly just because I've always adored anything with wings whether they be birds or planes. But teleporting would be faster.

Either way I wouldn't have to pay gas. =]

This is an awesome question.

So we went to PirateFest last weekend.

Pirate Festival

I had no idea that this existed until today, when my family went out for dinner by the wharf. We pulled into the parking lot and saw some people wearing red bandannas and Jack Sparrow hats. Then when we got inside and began our meal, a whole slew of people in 18th century dresses (like the women in Tortuga) and pirate costumes began filtering in.

Arrrr, here be the link.

And it's here, in my home town! Literally fifteen minutes away. Strange.

I had my second piercings done.

This is pretty tame compared to what other people do, but it's exciting stuff for me considering I'm really hesitant about putting anything permanent on my body. Besides, if I get any piercings on anything other than my ears, I know that I'll change my mind years later.

Anyway, in each hole is a simple 3mm stainless steel ball. I'm a cheap person, and they were only $16, haha.

Totally late...

awesome!
So I finally figured out how to check my grades online -- Solano's system is weird.

B in chemistry, baby!!! I was positive that I'd get a C, but this is awesome news. :) And then I got A's in medical term, biology, and speech. Speech was an easy class though, so no surprise there.

...Other than that, no real news, haha.

So my sister and I were at Walmart earlier buying groceries and while in line, my sister sees that McDonald's has Speed Racer toys. Natural curiosity kicks in and we go over. I order a happy meal, looking like a complete dork in the process -- obviously it's been awhile since I ordered a happy meal; the lady asks me what kind of kid's meal and I'm all, "Uh.... The nugget one?" And then I asked for a boy's toy.

After getting the happy meal I pull out the toy and see that it's a red car with a dragon on it.
"It's Rain's car!" Ate Nina said. "Awesome, we get Togokhan Motors!"

Why did we get excited over that? I don't know either, seeing as Taejo was a massive tool in the movie. Whatever. Emile Hirsch was hot (don't laugh).

Looks like I'm not going to San Diego until late June, and that's a-okay. San Diego is fun and all, but if I'm there for too long I start to get homesick. I can only imagine how it'll be if ever I have to leave for school.

So lately I've been getting into that vampire series by Stephenie Meyer, you know, the Twilight series. I finished the first one, and now I'm working on the second. I'm hoping to read the third one by August so that I can catch the fourth one, which I think is coming out on August 2? In any case it's been a really long time since I actually had the patience to sit down and read a book, so I'm pretty excited about this.

P.S. Paid account is awesome. I think I'll keep this up once it expires the first time.

Productive shopping day.

Today I walked home with a top for my cousin's wedding, an eyeshadow, Twilight, and a new pair of earrings.

I actually got my ear repierced today. I say ear because only one of my original lobe piercings closed up. Yeah, I don't know how that works either. But anyway, I figured it was time to get it opened up again anyway, so yay! I'll probably get additional lobe piercings some time this year. And I want fuchsia highlights in my fringe and ends. I don't know why. Maybe it's to add something different to my look since I'm growing my hair out (usually I just chop my hair off into piecey layers), but that will probably be after the wedding.

Ahh, summer's been good to me so far. I'm catching up on some well-needed sleep, and I'm looking forward to getting a little darker.

If at all possible, I'd like to schedule my classes so that they aren't so far apart. Hopefully all in the morning. Why? My 8am speech class is done with the final already, and my biology final isn't until 1:30p. So I'm stuck at school with nothing to do until then.

What am I supposed to do? Study?

...I probably should.

So bored

Currently I'm taking a long break from studying and looking up things to do in Dubai. I think we're going there for Thanksgiving instead of Taipei. Well I hope so anyway. As awesome as East Asia is, it would be nice to touch the other side of the continent, widen the territory if you will.

I do want to see that 7-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab, but I think you have to pay $75 just to get inside to take a look. That would be the most expensive museum ticket like ever. So I'm pretty sure that's a no...

So far the Creek and the Souks, and Umm Al Sheif Majlis look pretty interesting.

...And my dad might want to go golfing. Possibly.
I'm getting excited now. I really hope we go there instead of Taipei -- I mean, Taipei would be okay too, but going to the UAE would be really different.

EDIT
Okay, you know that allergies are giving you hell when you start waking up at 8 and 9 in the morning. This is coming from someone who usually wakes up around noon or one on the weekends.
