This probably involves buying more shelves, setting them up, and trying to organize stuff.
As with oh-so-many things in my life these days, I really don't want to try doing this alone, but any amount of company/moral support, even if it doesn't involve much aid in the lifting/hauling/organizing realm, will help.
I'd be happy to offer same to you...
You just have to be able to deal with our basement. ... and with home despot or lowes or somesuch. :)
(There's another (meta-)post about the 3rd paragraph to follow /sometime/ in the future... but not now.)
Does anyone have an mp3 of Weekend-Only World, by T.J. Burnside-Clapp?
I have it on tape someplace, and I have her hand-written original lyrics someplace, too... but neither of them are easily findable, and even if I find the tape, it's hard to play it.
For the 1st time, I think I'm not going to manage to catch up on LJ now that I'm back from my... travels. Ok, from Baitcon.
So, is there anything I need to know about? Want to know about? You think might be interesting for me to know?
You know the drill... comment and/or link here and tell me what I missed, ESPECIALLY if you posted something Baitcon related to someplace other than the community.
I'll screen initially but unscreen everything unless told otherwise... or you can mail me via any number of methods.
When our landlord repointed the basement, he got rid of - and rightfully so, really - the large collection of boxes down there.
Baitcon's upon us though, and before I go to uhaul tomorrow to buy a pile to pack in to, I thought I'd see if anyone had any immediately available.
I really don't know how many I'm looking for - I'd guess 15 each, small and medium, but I'll take what I can find right now - in good shape only, please.
11. connie willis score: 5 Never actually read anything by her... should I?
12. nethack score: 5 I dated the now-wife of the original author of Hack for a few years, a long time ago, but never got in to the game itself... but close enough. :)
13. slack score: 4 My reverend-ship expired years ago, but I was so slack that I never paid for it in the 1st place. And hey, I still am sort of proud of what the NYU SubGenius Alliance accomplished.
Tonight, I married a chinese couple who wanted to get married before the end of school, when one of them is returning to China. I had a bit more than 24 hours notice.
Their english is, of course, infinitely better than my chinese. That said, it wasn't very good.
A) I need to remember to never have non-english speakers repeat the vows... They should just be asked "Do you..."
B) beyond that, I don't know what would make it more meaningful.
Krissy: I always make sure to talk with people for a bit before-hand to get across the legalities and to sanity-check consent... I just want a better ceremony.
I almost did this one as just a conversation, some questions, and a pronouncement, but something better often seems warranted...
Soup is 13.5 quarts, 15# chicken, 5 hours of boiling, 6 hours of simmering, 10 hours of light boiling (that was unintentional... left the heat a bit higher than intended... and then over night, another 4# of chicken boiled in 4 quarts of the existing soup... which is now re-combined and on low heat -- when passover's earlier in the year, I can store (and chill) the soup outside. Not so much this year.
Lots of other foods bought and hopefully the last of the shopping being done now.
Charoset will start with 10# apples... I wonder how much the cores and peels weigh.
OH My GODS. That - minus the problem of not being a dancing-enabled venue - was an AMAZING show.
The final encore was an all-acoustic version of Put Out The Lights, down off the stage, in the audience.
Tomorrow night, in Toronto, Great Big Sea will be coming by. Honestly, that's not a huge extra attraction for me, though I DO really like GBS... but there are a couple of you around the TO area who might (or might not, I don't know, actually...) care.
Are any you Ontarians actually showing up tomorrow?
(Oh, and if you want to try to call me, the cell to use is 781 979 0344.)(In general, though, my cell number hasn't changed.)
In order to be nicer to A) the headphone jacks on my gear and B) the plug on my earphones, I want to get a number of quick-disconnect thingies... plug and leave one end in to each piece of gear, plug the other end in to the earphones... and then change between things - which might be in different places, so a mixer isn't an option - and switch between things quickly and easily.
Ideally, it'd be a mag-safe-type connector. Alternately, something like Plantronics' headset disconnect would work, too.
So, I'm in Port Dover, ON, where we're seeing the Oysterband tonight... And what's on TV? CURLING! Wacky Canadians, showing Curling in the middle of the day...
And I realized... I want there to be Wii Curling. :)
I've mentioned this need to many people and I may even have posted about it before, but I'm still in search... I have a lovely pair of Etymotic ER-6i earphones. Given the higher density of folks around here than I've become used to, and that I'm fairly near to a bunch of sales folks, keeping them in all the time has become even more necessary than usual.
The problem (and thus the quest) comes from when someone actually wants to talk to me... Pulling them out and putting them back all the time is annoying and slow.
What I'm looking for, thus, is an in-line microphone - to sit between the ipod and the earphones, or the computer and the earphones - that outputs to the earphone side of the system. What with all the voip and on-line gaming systems out there, it's easy to find things that output on the computer (or ipod, in this case) side, but that's not useful.
My google-fu has failed me. 'in-line microphone' hasn't been useful. Etymotic makes something close: http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/compmic.aspx - but that's not at all affordable nor precisely what I'm looking for.
