Multaj kanaloj, kun urbocentro kiel pli placxa versio de la riveropromeno en San Antonio, sed ne kreita nur por turistoj. Retpagxoj kun formularoj por persona informo havas lokon por prefikso por familia nomo (ekz "van" en "van Gogh"). :) Hodiaux ni esploros Amsterdamon. We're in Netherlands! Starting on Saturday we'll be in Rotterdam for the Universala Kongreso de Esperanto (the largest Eo event each year, with a couple thousand people from 50 or 60 countries), but now we are couchsurfing in Utrecht. I'm really impressed by the bike culture here, with bike lanes everywhere and a continual flow of quiet nonpolluting bikes instead of the usual traffic jams in many cities. Very nice! Other differences: stores close at 5pm or 6pm, so the city is surprisingly deserted in the evening. Many canals, with a downtown that's like a nicer version of San Antonio's riverwalk, but not created just for tourists. Webpages with forms for personal data have a place for the prefix of the family name (e.g. "van" in "van Gogh"). :) Today we're exploring Amsterdam. |

| 10:02 | bicikla uganda dimanĉo Sunday was tiring but fun. a2na and I and Beata went on a long bike trip (about 4 hours total riding) to picnic by a lake in a forest we'd been together a couple years ago. My legs felt like jelly afterward, since it was the first time I recall bicycling in about 8 months. Later that night we went with Gosia and her couchsurfing guest Patrick from Austria to see visiting Ugandan breakdancers performing with local Polish breakdancers. Some of the dancing was pretty impressive. It was a free show in the annual Brave Festival. All in all, a pleasing day. Dimanĉo lacigis sed amuzis. a2na kaj mi kaj Beata biciklis longe (ĉ 4 horoj da rajdado sume) por pikniki ĉe lago en arbaro kie ni estas antaŭ du jaroj. Miaj gamboj estis kiel konfitaĵo poste, ĉar tio estis mia unua biciklado ekde 8 monatoj laŭ mia memoro. Poste en la nokto ni iris kun Gosia kaj ŝia "couchsurfing"-gasto Patrick de Aŭstrujo por spektaklo de junaj Ugandaj stratdancistoj ("breakdancers") kun lokaj Polaj dancistoj. La dancoj sufiĉe ofte bone impresis min. Estis senpaga spektaklo de la jara "Brave Festival". Sume la tago plaĉis. Niedziela była męcząca ale dobra. a2na i ja i Beata pojechaliśmy rowerem nad jeziorem w lesie, gdzie byliśmy razem 2 lata temu. Nogi były słabe, bo to mój pierwszy raz na rowerze od 8 miesięcy. W nocy byliśmy na spektaklu "breakdancing" z młodymi tancerzami z Ugandy i z Polski. Byłem dość często pod wrażeniem tańców. To było bezpłatny spektakl w programie "Brave Festival". Niezły dzień.

La arboj iel havis foliojn kaj branĉojn kiuj povus lumi se estus elektro por ili. Do Greg trenis longegan elektran kablon al tiu arbo por konekti ĝin. Ĉiuj arboj efektive havis elektrajn ingojn por kabloj, sed Greg trovis ke lia kablo havis maltaŭgan konektilon, do frustre li devis serĉi adaptilojn. Krome estis ia neklara afero kiu kaŭzis, ke Greg devis dividi la kablon en kelkajn partojn per dividiloj ĉar alie estus tro da elektro por la unu arbo. Do unu teĥnika ĝenaĵo post alia, kaj finfine Greg plendis al mi pri la daŭraj problemoj elektrigi la arbon. Viaj arboj en Nov-Zelando eĉ havas elektrajn ingojn kaj povon elektre lumigi, do jam la problemo ege pli facilas por vi ol estus en aliaj landoj!", kaj mi tuj vekiĝis.Yesterday I started reinstalling Windows on one of our old computers, of course a rather irritating long frustrating process. And recently ghewgill blogged about various of his technical adventures. (E.g. this and this.) So maybe this combination inspired an amusing strange dream while I slept last night: In the dream, Greg was telling about how he was in some big forest and had to electrically light up some tree in the middle of the forest by some lake. The trees somehow had leaves and branches that could light up if there'd be electricity for them. So Greg dragged a very long electrical cable to that tree to connect it. All the trees actually had electrical sockets for cables, but Greg found that his cable had the wrong kind of plug, so he frustratedly had to search for an adapter. Plus there was some unclear reason that he had to branch the cable into several parts with splitters since otherwise there'd be too much electricity for one tree. So one technical annoyance after another, and in the end Greg was complaining to me about the continual problems to get electricity to the tree. I seemed to become semi-aware of the absurd dreamness of the situation, because I suddenly replied "But why are you complaining? Your trees in New Zealand even have electrical sockets and the power to light up electrically, so the problem is already a lot easier for you then it would be in other countries!", and I immediately woke up. |

Verŝajne mi estas 6K laŭ eŭropa kaj pola sistemoj. Krom ludi goon, mi ankaŭ akiris 24 pliajn paĝojn en mia preskaŭ plene stampita pasporto (presita en 2005) ĉe la usona konsulejo! Hura. Ni renkontiĝis kun diversaj varsoviaj amikoj kaj bonŝance aranĝis reveni aŭte kun tre afabla vroclava familio kies filo ludis en la turniro; tio estis agrabla! (Interese mi estas 3K laŭ KGS, dum tiu filo estas 2D, kvankam ni ambaŭ estis 6K en la turniro kaj ambaŭ gajnis 3 el 6 partioj.) Pro tio 5-hora konversacio mi ekzercis mian polan kaj krome pli emas iri al somera go-lernejo, kio estas interesa tendumada tabulluda afero en julio. Kompreneble veganismo estos iomete problema tie. My third time at this annual Warsaw go tournament. It seems I'm 6K in the European and Polish systems. Besides playing go, I also got 24 additional pages in my almost fully stamped passport (issued in 2005) at the US consulate! Yay. We met with various Warsaw friends and luckily managed to return by car with a quite friendly Wrocław family whose son played in the tournament; that was nice! (Interestingly I am 3K on KGS, while the son is 2D, although we both were 6K in the tournament and both won 3 out of 6 games.) Because of that 5-hour conversation I practiced my Polish and also am more likely to go to the summer go school in July, which is an interesting camping and boardgame thing in July. Of course veganism will be a little tricky there. Byliśmy w Warszawie. Był coroczny turniej go a to mój trzeci raz tam. Poza tym, dostałem więcej stron w moim paszporcie w amerykańskim konsulacie, to dobrze bo prawie każda strona była pełna. Spotkaliśmy się z przyjaciółmi warszawskimi. Przypadkiem mogliśmy wrócić samochodem z miłą rodziną. Syn też grał w turnieju. Myślę że Letnia Szkoła Go w lipcu byłaby ciekawa dla mnie. | 22:40 | Pionek VII Dużo grałem! Pionek VII był bardzo fajny. Był turniej Neuroshima Hex i ja wygrałem (z móze 16 osób)! Był turniej gier logicznych i a2na wygrała; ja byłem drugi (z koło 6 prawdziwych graczy)! Więc dostaliśmy nagrody: Samurai, Beowulf, Blefuj. Bardzo zabawny weekend! Jestem zmęczony ale zadowolony. Pionek 7 estis tre bona. Estis turniro pri Neuroshima Hex, kaj mi gajnis (el eble 16 homoj)! Estis turniro pri "logikaj ludoj" kaj a2na gajnis; mi estis dua (el ĉirkaŭ 6 seriozaj ludantoj)! Do ni ricevis premiojn: Samurai, Beowulf, Blefuj. Tre amuza semajnfino! Mi lacas sed kontentas. Pionek 7 was quite good. There was a Neuroshima Hex tournament, and I won (out of maybe 16 people)! There was a tournament of pure strategy/combinatorial/perfect information/logical games, and a2na won; I was second (out of about 6 serious players). So we got prizes: Samurai, Beowulf, Blefuj. Very fun weekend. I'm tired but pleased.

| 23:18 | A midsummer night's dream We saw a free student production of Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" in a nice shady outdoor courtyard this afternoon. I think this was the first time I saw an English language play in Poland. The actors were from Poland, England, Canada, Turkey, so there were quite a variety of accents. They abridged the play to only cover the story of the four lovers, leaving out the subplots of Titania falling in love and the traveling actors who perform Pyramus and Thisbe. As a result, the play only lasted an hour with no pause, and that was quite enjoyable and different from the many other productions I've seen of this. Ni spektis senpagan studentan Ŝekspiran prezenton de "Sonĝo de somermeza nokto" en plaĉa ombra ekstera korto hodiaŭ posttagmeze. Verŝajne tio estis mia unua anglalingva teatra sperto en Polujo. La aktoroj estis de Polujo, Anglujo, Kanado, Turkujo, do estis diversaj akĉentoj. Oni mallongigis teatraĵon por nur prezenti la ĉefan intrigon, kiu surprizis sed plaĉis. Zobaczyliśmy bezpłatną studencką wersję sztuki "Sen nocy letniej" Szekspira na zewnątrz. Było miło. Chyba to był mój pierwszy spektakl po angielsku w Polsce. Aktorzy byli z Polski, Anglii, Kanady, Turcji, dlatego mówili różnie. Wersja sztuki była krótka, tylko z główną fabułą ale to podobało mi się. http://www.wroclawweekly.pl/index.p |

Oryginalny tekst jest po angielsku według Paradise Lost Miltona ale wersja wczoraj wieczorem była głównie po niemiecku. Współczesna muzyka opery nie była taka ładna ani energetyczna dla mnie ale była dość dobra i czasami bardzo mocna. Aktorzy grali i tańczyli bardzo dobrze. Kostiumy były fajne. Fabuła (z Szatanem, Adamem, Ewą, itd) jest bardzo znana... to dobrze, bo słabo rozumiałem trudne napisy po polsku. Cieszę się, że zobaczyliśmy operę. Ni spektis modernan polan operon bazitan sur "Paradise Lost" de Milton. Bonis rolado, dancado, kostumoj, ktp. Tia moderna opera muziko ne tiom ravas min, sed ĝi ofte estis drama kaj efika. La originala teksto estis angla, sed ial ĉi tiu versio estis kantata en la germana. La intrigo pri Satano, Adamo, Evo, ktp tute familiaras, bonŝance, ĉar alie mi malmulte komprenus pro la malfacila polaj supertekstoj. We saw a modern Polish opera based on Milton's Paradise Lost. Good actors, dancing, costumes, etc. That kind of modern opera music is not so beautiful for me, but it was often dramatic and strong. The original libretto was English, apparently, but for some reason this version was sung in German. Lucky for me the story of Satan, Adam, Eve, etc is familiar, because the Polish supertitles were often too difficult and fast for me. |

(Ili sufiĉe interesis min ke mi krome aĉetis pli ampleksajn versiojn por legi hejme poste.) Koincide revenante tra Londono ni hazarde trovis ekspozicion pri Ramayana. Signo! Ĉiuokaze ni estas hejme post 5 semajnoj en Barato. Tio estis vere la plej intensa vojaĝo en mia vivo. Barato estas lando de ekstremoj, kun frustregaĵoj kaj plaĉegaĵoj. Mi verŝajne skribos pli detale poste. Nuntempe mi lacegas kaj bedaŭrinde suferas ian stomakan malsanon. I read both classics (Ramayana and Mahabharata) during the trip, in condensed versions (R. K. Narayan's Ramayana and C. Rajagopalachari's Mahabharata). (They interested me enough that I also bought longer versions to read at home later.) Coincidentally returning through London we randomly found an exhibit about Ramayana. A sign! In any case we are home after 5 weeks in India. That was truly the most intense trip in my life. India is a land of extremes, with terrible frustrating stuff and great stuff. I will probably write in more detail later. Now I'm exhausted and unfortunately suffering from some stomach bug.

| 21:50 | Wysokie Napięcie Obawiałem się, że może byłoby trudno zainteresować dość dużo osób Wysokim Napięciem dziś wieczorem w klubie, ale faktycznie 6 graliśmy (na planszy Beneluksa). Gra trwała 2 godziny (kiedy tylko ja i a2na graliśmy gra trwała tylko 1 godzinę) ale była bardzo zabawna i ciekawa. Było też miło, że tak dużo rozmawialiśmy po polsku i dość dużo rozumiałem. Poza tym wygrałem (17 domów; drugi i trzeci gracze mieli 16). :) Mi iom timetis, ke estus malfacile interesi sufiĉe da homoj pri Wysokie Napięcie hodiaŭ vespere en la klubo, sed fakte 6 ludis (sur la mapo de Benelukso). La ludo daŭris 2 horojn (kiam nur mi kaj a2na ludis, daŭris nur 1 horon) sed estis tre amuza kaj interesa. Krome plaĉis, ke ni tiom multe konversaciis pole kaj mi sufiĉe multe komprenis. Krome mi gajnis (17 domoj; dua i tria rangoj havis 16). :) I was a little worried that it would be hard to get enough people interested in Power Grid tonight at the club, but in fact 6 of us played (on the Benelux map). The game lasted 2 hours (when just a2na and I played it lasted only 1 hour) but was quite fun and interesting. It was also nice that we chatted so much in Polish, and I understood so much. Plus I won (17 houses; 2nd and 3rd place had 16). :)

| 21:25 | Eufrat i Tygrys Czasami czuję się lepiej z moim słabym polskim, np dziś wieczorem jak grałem z Eufrat i Tygrys z Piotrem i Kamilem. Rozmawialiśmy po polsku prawie cały czas. Krok po kroku... Poza tym, wygrałem. Dawno grałem w Eufrat i cieszę się, że gram znowu ostatnio. :) Fojfoje mi sentas min pli bona kun mia malforta pola, ekz hodiaŭ vespere dum mi ludis na Eŭfrato kaj Tigriso kun Piotr kaj Kamil. Ni babilis pole preskaŭ la tutan tempon. Paŝo post paŝo... Krome mi gajnis. Antaŭe mi fojfoje ludis Eŭfraton, kaj mi feliĉas, ke mi ludas denove lastatempe. :) Sometimes I feel better about my lame Polish, e.g. this evening while I played Tigris & Euphrates with Piotr and Kamil. We chatted in Polish almost the whole time. Step by step... Plus I won. I used to play T&E, and I'm glad to play it again lately. :)
