It's about 8 ft long and will have a cargo basket up front that can hold kids and groceries. The good thing about this bike is that it's only two wheels, so it will be easier to maneuver than the 3 wheel cargo bike we've been using. balance will be provided by a cool center kick stand.

    Back to Work
So the Gallery has a new web site but the domain name sucks. I can't find anything that isn't taken, so for now the site is www.ray-gallery.com It's still being built but it should be fabulous once we get images and text up.

Also, Ty and I have been working on this kinetic, rail-bound, push-car sculpture event for the Fall and things are now totally coming together. I have completely underestimated people. We have a core group of dedicated volunteers that are making things happen so fast, I hardy have time to keep up. I will never try to do an event alone again. This is Amazing and I am floored.
Here's our Website for the event. www.handcarregatta.com
    being built by a volunteer...Awesome!!
I am in a new level of event organizing. I have never before solicited sponsors, worked so in-depth with the city and had committees.
We want to make this a yearly event, so hopefully this will be the toughest year, working out the bugs.
We did get a nice grant from the city and they are letting us use the portapotties and the new sound system and stage that they just bought. Swell.

some glorious thing amid the mess
I have tons of papers due every week. I like taking tests. I do not like writing papers. Grad school is all papers. what I wouldn't give for a little scantron bubble action.

My museum tours class has been fun. going backstage at a mess of science and tech centers in the bay area. Then writing about it of course.

Saturday the class has to go to Santa Cruz. I decided that I was going to turn it into a little trip. The big girl has been begging to go to the Monterey Aquarium for a couple of years, so after my class we're headed down to Monterey, check into our swanky hotel, swim. sleep. Sunday we'll go to the aquarium and then head home. I used to be a docent at that aquarium when I was in high school. I haven't been back to the monterey area since.
When I decided to make a little vacation out of this, I thought it was going to be the only trip we'd take this year. of course as soon as I paid for the arrangements, that all changed..
    because
in 3 weeks we, the whole family, leave for Amsterdam. Todd has to do an installation for the Water district in Utrecht. so we'll be there for two weeks. Anyone want to come and be my nanny? I know my lovely children will drive me crazy by day 4.
We have friends there, and I think they have friends with kids, so maybe I can pawn mine off for an evening???

what is this?? how freaking cute.
I am sooo not a dog person. I like individual dogs, enormously in fact. But as a whole I'm not taken with them.
But we've added this new baby to the family. virtually, of course. No need to scoop the poop.

    enjoy.

is that Mercury done with that naughty thing it does yet?
retrograding is no fun! But I think we're pulling out of it just fine. sorta.

I finally have a new car. and get this.. IT RUNS! well, it's really not new. '88 volvo wagon. sorta the same as the last one, but IT RUNS. This makes getting to SF twice a week much easier.

The family is done with the all night puking and two week fevers. Let's hope we're done for good.

I think I have some childcare help, expensive, but help nonetheless.

I have about 3 hours of work to do this morning. Then take the big girl to rollerskating party. Then my commitments for the weekend are over.

I think its going to be a tamale Sunday. Make a whole bunch and freeze them. yum yum yum.

one more thing to do before I die.
I have never, not once ever, watched the oscars. Once when I was 5 or 6 I was almost harmed by one falling on the pillow, close to my head, while I napped at a family friend's house in Topanga. My grandmother has attended 3 Academy Awards. One of her husbands, being the recipient of at least one. And yet, I have never seen them. I don't really think I have ever even registered the amount of hoopla surrounding them until this year. Has it always been like this? What black hole am I crawling out of that I never noticed this before?
    how odd.
Do you watch? Isn't very long and mostly boring? I think I vaguely remember that billy crystal hosts, or used to host them? or was that something else.

    house of sick
ugh, 3 weeks of sick. I think we're all on the mend now. whew.

Part two of the Ned show at the gallery went swimmingly. Tons of turn-out and a lot of excitement for the next show. I have been asked to join few other arty committees (which, hoorah, I said no to), but I was asked to speak on a panel of young people in the arts. I don't know who I'll be talking to yet. I forgot to ask that part.
Todd will be giving his first lecture at SSU next Tuesday. fortunately my class on Tues. was canceled, so I can go heckle him.

does anybody even read this anymore? I know I post so rarely. oh well.

    oooh, now it's official!
my new little gallery was blogged on Apartment Therapy!!

Feel free to come if you're local!  Were expecting hundreds of people.  I wasn't at first, but everywhere I go, I hear people talking about it and it's gotten so much press.

    Where we stand
So what,? it's like the second week of January already?
I don't think I've mentioned that I started a new gallery. it's called Micro Gallery at Ray Modern.  A person I only slightly knew, asked me to open a gallery space in his design showroom. It's going to be great....I hope. My first show opens next friday and I'm very nervous. I can't go into all the details but it's a little like being gifted a legacy that you don't really deserve. or do you. or maybe it's a test and you might fuck it up. It could make me or break me. This first show also sets a precedent for future shows and I honestly don't know if I can live up to it.
I don't go back to school until the 24th. School seems like an easy out right now.
I meet with the board of directors (for that swanky job that I talked about already) in a couple of weeks. If I decide to take the job it will mean letting go of the gallery and perhaps letting go of school. My garden won't be as tended (though to be honest, it's kinda sucked lately anyhow).
I also was just asked to be on the Arts District Advisory Council for my city. I think it's going to be easy enough. I just have to be strong and have an opinion.
I am shaking inside. I look like someone who bakes cookies, not someone who runs art empires. I have to pretend that I can run art empires and that I think I'm the kind of hot shit that thinks I can do that. I have to have a sense of entitlement. I have never had that and now I have to pretend that I do.
    In other news:
The baby is remarkably potty training but still has no words? Dj at this age, was saying things like "well, actually it's stuck" and "no, I prefer the other one" . The other odd thing is that the baby started walking with force at 10 months but even now, at 17 months, will fall and hit her head from a perfect stand still? She's constantly tripping over her own feet and I think it might do her a world of good to wear a helmet all the time.
Anyhow, I'm boring myself and you.
    see you all later.

I did not win the car
I hemmed and hawed about entering the contest. I submitted my design hours before the deadline. a few weeks later I was notified that out of over 1000 entries, I was one of about 20 finalist. a week or so after that, I had to get legal papers notarized saying I was eligible to win. They had me going, I thought I had won, but I found out today, that I did not win the car. Here's my entry for the "craft-my-ride" Scion car contest.
It's like buying a lottery ticket and fantasizing about what you're going to do with all that money, but knowing you're not really going to win. eh, it was fun while it lasted.
    Pocket Monster
Djuna called it a Pocket Monster.

in other news, I have been offered a very prestigious job that pays crazy money. It's the job that I was going to school to get and didn't really think I'd have until I was at least 10 more years into my career. I honestly don't know that I'm ready for it. aaregh. what to do? Money would be really cool. Will the baby hate me if I go to work full time?

    I'm a finalist! and I have a paper due.
I always post when I'm avoiding something else.
anyhow, awhile back I entered a contest to win a Scion car. I didn't even know what one looked like, but whatever.
I crafted up a little pocket, storage thing and they just called to say that I'm a finalist!! whoohoo.
I probably won't win a car, but it's nice to be a finalist.
