Poor Hillary. She scores her first big win since Ohio and Texas, and before all the confetti has even settled to the floor, this happens.
She needs to admit the fact that for now she can't do it and see if she can't get herself the #2 spot on the ticket. I hope she does. An Obama/Clinton ticket appeals to me more than an Obama/Edwards duo. |

What is it with Austrian Family Life? First a dude keeps his daughter caged up in his cellar for 24 years and now this?
(He said he wanted to protect them from the scandal of his failure in business.) |

Sorry...I've been kinda busy lately with planning for a massive party towards the end of the month, my 50th b-day coming up, and the logistics of trying to make sure that Helen and i can go to the TW tour in the US
HEADS-UP, TEXAS. If you are interested in catching Tom Waits live (amazing, take my word for it), he'll be here,
Sunday, June 22, 2008 Houston, TX US Jones Hall @ 8:00 PM
Monday, June 23, 2008 Dallas, TX US Palladium @ 8:00 PM
tickets go on sale within the week.
Details for these and other US shows can be found here.
where was I? Oh yeah, so with all of this other stuff going on I haven't posted here much except to pimp my comic (Speaking of which...New Dirt), but yep, things are going pretty well.
London has been under (rare) clear blue skies with wonderfully warm temperatures, and we've already had our first BBQ of the season.
May you be as happy. |

And here's a little visual aid as regards the new Mayor of London...

Yeah, so my last post was inspired by a weird-ass week that culminated in London electing an absolute fucking clown for mayor (please let him become a good mayor. please) and what looked liker a lot of similar weeeks being experienced by the folks on my friends list.
The big thing for me was the fact that my internet at home was down due to a stupid conflict between our satellite tv and the broadband, and the failure of the folks at the broadband tech support to ask me a simple question in the hunt for the problem. After I waited 3 working days (which was five since the weekend happened during that time) with no internet for the broadband guys to fix the problem by remote, Icalled them up again and this time the tech support did ask me if we had our satellite tv connected to the same phone jack (I'd have thought of this on my own except that we've had it like that for almost a year with no problems) and when he suggested that I unplug the tv from the phone jack and replug the phone/broadband cord into it the fucking problem disappeared and YAY, I'm back on line.
1 day later the little box that interprets the signal coming through the phone line for the computer just dies. Pfft. Well, no noise, just everything goes out. No lights, no connection. Nuttin.
FUCK!
So I call tech support and tell them and they tell me that it's their policy to address this as a voltage adapter issue before they address it as a Livebox issue, and so they'll be sending me a new voltage adapter in 2-3 working days and if that isn't the problem they'll send me a new Livebox in another 2-3 working days. This means I might be looking at another week with no net.
FUCK!
But wait!
We had problems with the first Livebox that they sent us and so after a two week internet-less struggle with the bastards (the reasons we stayed with them are complicated but valid)they sent us another Livebox, and i was 90% sure it came with a new adapter. We never throw that sort of shit out, and in fact we have a big wicker box full of cables and adapters and all kinds of crap like that sitting next to the computer.
I took a look at the suspect adapter and saw what the output voltage was and then I started rummaging around in the box.
Success!
I found the adapter that came with our "new" Livebox, plugged it in, plugged it into the Livebox and Wa-Lah! YAY!
Lots of other stuff happened too, like they finally fixed our bathroom ceiling where it had been badly damaged by an upstairs leak after a year of infuriating struggle with the owner of the flat upstairs, and the aforementioned election of Boris the Clown Johnson for a four year term as our mayor.
I leave you with this little piece of straight talk and common sense in this time of bullshit and insanity...

Midweek/Humpday Tune...
"Poor Edward", by Tom Waits, from his "Alice"Cd.
(The the song is based on the allegedly true story of one Edward Mordrake.)
Poor Edward (lyrics)
Did you hear the news about Edward? On the back of his head He had another face Was it a woman's face Or a young girl They said to remove it would kill him So poor Edward was doomed The Face could laugh and cry It was his Devil twin And at night she spoke to him Of things heard only in hell They were impossible to separate Chained together for life Finally the bell tolled his doom He took a suite of rooms And hung himself and her From the balcony irons Some still believe he was freed from her But i knew her too well I say she drove him to suicide And took Poor Edward to Hell
I was reminded of this song the other day by something I read in the paper. And it makes me wonder how this case here will turn out. (that's not a good link to click if you're squeamish.) |

I meant to do this yesterday for a Humpday Tune, but I got busy and forgot. So to make up for it and my recent failure to keep up with this little project, here are two tunes for you.
The first one is by Jim Carroll, a punk from NYC who was immortalized by Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of him in "The Basketball Diaries", and this cheerful little song from his CD "Catholic Boy" is the tune for which he is most widely known.
People Who Died
The second tune is a little more light-hearted song by a Vancouver based band called The Be Good Tanyas, from their CD "Blue Horse".

Rather than write my own version of this post I've just lifted this whole thing from imp_of_satan's LJ. I'm pretty sure she won't mind, as this is kind of important...
"Hey Everybody!
You may have been following kumimonster's lj recently and keeping up on her "copyright infringement" problems, and despite the fact that the complainer has dropped his charges, LJ has deleted her account anyway.
I just can't imagine an LJ world without Kumi in it.
So anyway, benson3 has started up a community in support of her, complete with a petition to bring back her journal, so go join and sign it.

I don't know what to say, but I feel like I should say something. i just don't have it in me to say a lot now.
Scott Stahl was the only innocent man (not "good", just innocent of the crime for which he had been convicted) I ever met in prison.
I always hoped, as did he, that he would find justice and be released. It didn't happen. He died of kidney failure on March 30.
Merry we meet... |
