You know - I've stuck by LJ through every little change in the last five years. When they created the "Plus" journal status (with ads) I supported them. I thought it was a good way for the company to grow some revenue while still being true to Brad's whole vision.

But THIS. THIS is TOO much.

Livejournal is no longer offering the basic account type. No notice, no announcement, even - just the quiet change. Just let the users figure it out for themselves - maybe if we don't tell them, then they can't get mad at us. It's the sneaky, covert bullshit that has me reeling. Every layout I have ever made has been rendered obsolete. Every tutorial I've written was written for basic users in mind. I run a community for BASIC users of Livejournal with over 50,000 members. Obsolete now.

Well - I am done paying for this service. My account expires this very week - what timing! I will still be around to read my friend's list and check up on my obsolete communities. I may update a time or two as well. I will never be a paid user of LJ again.

The first song is called "My Own". It brings back very fond memories for me because I was there when Matt first wrote it ten years ago. You guys should really check out the album version here. It's the very last song (#11) on the page. It is NOT Matt singing on the album version - it's Lucas Ade, the lead singer from Matt's old band, The Other Side. You can hear Betsy Ade - the lead singer of his other band, Rainy Day Crush - singing backup on that version.

I don't know much about the second song at all. I'm so out of the loop.
