| | Disturbia (Rihanna) | ] | So coffee after 8pm is a bad idea, as I am discovering now. Especially when you load enough of it into he machine for six cups, with enough water for two. Well, I guess I've learned my lesson. Got all my reading for school done (Herman Melville's Benito Cereno and excerpts from Hesiod) which is a nice feeling. To make up for not writing this evening I finished some editing and posted a new To Be Human chapter (to be found here) and a Dark Knight one-shot that I finished a while ago but lacked a closing line for (Rachel/Harvey, found here).
Then I couldn't sleep, so I got up, oh, about a half hour ago and started writing. Its utter shite, but I was so intrigued by Jim Gordon's line in The Dark Knight when he screams, "I have to save Dent!" he just seems so desperate that he can't even control himself and this normally careful and secretive man blurts out a very personal fear. I just found it so heartbreaking so I tried to write a little stream of consciousness from that moment. It sucks, but there might be a seed for a more lucid story somewhere in the scrambled text.
Still awake, still jittery (from the coffee, I think). I'm just going to post this and try to go to sleep, wish me luck!

| | 12 Byzantine Rulers podcast (by Lars Brownworth) | ] | Hey everyone, I felt compelled to post about this podcast I've just finished listening to, by Lars Brownworth called The 12 Byzantine Rulers: A History of the Byzantine Empire. Apparently its very famous on iTunes but I just encountered it. The series was very informative and really a joy to listen to. Not to mention, its 100% free. I'm posting the link here and if any of you have some listening time on your hands I suggest you try it out.
Ikonopeiston - you especially I think would enjoy this.

They're easiest to find on iTunes. |

| | the AMVs | ] | Connecticon, and AMVs, and Teen Titans, oh my!
I just started watching Teen Titans, and since its a few years old its REALLY easy to find on the internet. Just got to the Apprentice episode (season 1 finale). Betrayal, mind control, man against himself...all of my favorite themes :-D It's making me squee.
Going to Connecticon this weekend, very psyched for that though I"m not sure what to expect, I just hope I can get my Nel costume done in time!
And for your viewing pleasure, some AMVs I found recently that I thought were good enough to share.
I had trouble embedding them so here's the links:
Princess Tutu - Beyond This AMV may make you want to see Princess Tutu despite the name, which is saying something. The editing and music are just sublime (the song is Fairyland by Angelzoom, really beautiful). Highly reccomended.
Avatar - Encore
Avatar - Remember the Name
These two Avatar videos are rated some of the best ones on the internet. Action/character tribute is how I would describe them but the editing is superb and the use of character quotes is perfect. Also highly recommended.
Actually, does anyone know how to embed Youtube videos in a post? |

Attempt at a stream of consciousness. Beware, rambling ahead but there's a couple good lines (they won't be by tomorrow) scattered about.

I got a new icon ^_^ Fun bit of Bleach/girl power crossover going on there. I'm sure Emily will appreciate it ^_^
Been working out, writing, working, seeing friends, visiting the bf, and testing D&D 4.0 (it sucks, btw). This to me translates the perfect summer. My current obsession is the Bleach Turn Back the Pendulum arc, it has stolen my soul and made me a rabid Hiyori/Shinji shipper. I got a little drabble for those two sitting on my harddrive but mostly I want to concentrate on finishing To Be Human, because the damn fic is somehow my most popular with 11,000 hits 0.o and I kinda want it out of my life. More than that, I wouldn't mind actually FINISHING a multi-chapter fic. I know, I suck. Also got the 2 original novels to work on. Hmmm.... So yeah, not much new going on here. Trying to slip back into the the swing of things and reclaim my comfort zone after 4 months of the social life nightmare that was Rome (don't get me wrong, academically and experience-wise it was amazing, but my social life really sucked). Currently in the process of self-helping on some issues that have cropped up. So far so good. |

I'M HOME!!!!
Oh God, you don't know what its like to miss the US until you've been away for four months. Efficiency, multi-national foods, driving...gah! Oh yeah, the family and friends bit doesn't hurt either.
So anyway, I'm back in the Shire and I will be all summer, got my internship at Portsmouth Magazine starting next week and in the meantime you will find me attempting to work off the carb pounds courtesy of Italy. I am free for movies (ohpleaseohplease I haven't seen anything that has come out in the last few months), beach, conventions (hintConnecticonhint), cosplay preparation, D&D and general dorking around.
IT'S SO GOOD TO BE BACK! |

| | crazed | ] | Wow, its been AWHILE since I've done an all-nighter post. Partially because I've been too lazy to pull an all-nighter. Anywhoo, two cappucino's down and only 1/3 of the work done. It looks like I really will be working through until 9am tomorrow, yeehaw!
Yeah, I'm a bit silly right now and I've begun to twitch but I still feel really awake, even if my brain is getting a bit foggy. I have 5 more 15 line paragraphs to write for Italian, then I have to TRANSLATE them, then I have to write a good portion of the 7 pages left of my paper. Then tomorrow night I get to write notes for class, yay! But at least I'll be done by Wednesday night...double yay!

| | creative | ] | Dear Maggie, Lately I have noticed that you haven't gotten much work done. I find this unfortunate, because you are nearing finals week and a great deal of work is nigh. Let me point out that you are currently in a beautiful foreign country with gorgeous weather and many interesting sites, and rather than sitting in your room procrastinating and ultimately getting no work done, you could be out there enjoying it.
I understand that you have a slight cold. It happens to the best of us, unfortunately. I recommend water and plenty of rest, however, a cold should not stop you from doing your homework as it has in recent days. Perhaps you should get on that.
Now, enough nagging ^_^ I've heard you have a new novel idea (that's funny, don't you have a few others that you are currently "working on" as well? oops, sorry promised not to nag). I have to admit, it sounds much more complete that some of your earlier half-baked ideas. You have a protagonist, a sidekick/mentor, a villain, a setting, and even a magic system! I may even be a little bit proud of you. That is, until I saw you looking on the internet for novel writing motivation. I then realized you had hit an all time low.
There is a very simple remedy for not doing your work, Maggie. For one thing, you can stop fooling around on the internet, reading articles by people who have never published a novel and frankly have nothing new to teach you and...
wait for it...
GET YOUR ASS IN THAT CHAIR AND START WRITING!!
Oh, and stop talking to yourself. While I commend your sad attempt at creativity, it is a little creepy.
Yours Sincerely, Yourself |
