an...tissipay....shun hey ukeing folks :)
i've only played the uke in several music shops & i've always parted from them with a sad delight. i recently decided to take this instrument up to have something to sing along with & have FUN with. (i also like to play the recorder & pennywhistle but i can't exactly sing along while playing those)
today's my happy day though. i've been checking the usps delivery service online all day for a delivery confirmation & it made it home before i did! i've got about 30 minutes left of work...blah!
tomorrow, i may just have to take a ukuholidaye...hmmmm. |

Buying Uke When I was younger, I lived in Hawaii and part of the curriculum of my school was learning how to play the uke. We learned a few basics, such as strumming and a few chords (c, g7, d are what I remember). Recently, I was stuck with the thought of maybe learning to play the ukulele again. I was thinking maybe the Applause UA10. ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Applause-UA10-Mini-Ukulele-?sku=516718) I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a different one, or an opinion on the UA10. Anywhere around 100 is my budget. Thanks. |

Marisel's Big Day Hey guys, here's a video of an original song that I performed tonight at a Variety Show in NYC. It's my first time writing a song myself and performing it, so go easy! There's a bunch more uke videos from that show on my Youtube page if anyone wants to click through. Thanks for looking! Current Mood: cold |

HELP! please....
I have a new YouTube video. But in a moment of brightness decided that I would try and get more 'me' in the frame and turned the camera phone.
Bright?Er, well not really as thanks to the format it's in (MPEG-4 Movie Quicktime) I can't now edit by turning it the right way round! I don't really want to do it again as it is the third attempt and i quite like the playing! I have tried using stuff on my computer (vid editors and the like) I tried using Windows movie Player but they either won't do it or simply won't open the file...
So lie down and enjoy! And while you're there, let me know if you have any good free downloads that I can use to convert the file and then edit it? Woncha? please!

++Banjo time!++ This feels a bit sacriligious and also hypocritical putting this post up! But in the spirit of broad mindedness. I own a Banjo uke that I was fortunate enough to be given. I was all excited at first as it turned out to be 1930's John Grey and when the 'ker-ching' sound in my head had worn off I discovered that it weren't worth an awful lot! Then the guilt hit and I felt bad! So lately I've been trying to give it a go. It doesn't play easily and it does sound better with a proper Uke thin plectrum ( from this jolly nice fella) which is also usually against my religion (but having seen the UOGB recently where nearly the whole troup used them, my ideas are slightly changed.) I've put some cheap and cheerful strings on ( again, very nice man here...) and it's in working order, kinda. Anyroad, take a look if you like and let me know. The piece isn't up to much but sounds appropriate.. |

++Super Market Flowers++ And in the interest of self publication...
I've done another youTube. These things are addictive! I hope you like it and if you don't then I hope you comment constructively! And if any of you have followed recent postings then this recording is nearly in tune on the Jenny, moreso than the recording the other night to be honest!

Hello, I think someone was asking about the Colorado Ukulele Festival. If you go to http://www.swallowhill.com/ , you can find out more about it. I will be there with The Denver Ukulele Orchestra and also with my banjo company Bean Sprout http://www.thebeansprout.com. So stop by and introduce yourself. Heidi |

++Recording++ Thought you may be interested (for future info?) to see a couple of shots of me recording the new track 'Supermarket Flowers' last night at my good friends house... The Jenny sounded nice but is very obvious that it needs work doing to it to sort out the very poor intonation. Strings in tune perfectly, then chords well outta tune! Embarrasingly so. The Vintage Electro Concert was so bad we had to give up with it. But listening back to the first takes with the Jenny I'm not sure it was much better. Aquila strings as well... Anyone know a good luther in the West Mids, UK?!!? No? Me neither... *sigh* Current Mood: happy |

popping in Hiya! I started lj yesterday with the intention of putting up writing projects (learning at my advanced age!) and I searched interests for ukulele and there you were. After skimming several entries, you guys are tops! I'm not up to the advanced level but I've been playing around for three years. I have a "Snowfluke" and a pink concert Flea. The Snowfluke was tuned to low G until last month. Now both of them are common GCEA. Happy to "meet" you and hope to learn a lot. :) Current Mood: optimistic |

Probably an FAQ I bought a uke in August and I have been having a great time playing it. Suddenly, starting last week, it has refused to hold tune. The A and G strings will not stay in tune no matter what I do. I will get them to where they need to be, and as soon as I let go of the peg they tune back down. It is literally impossible to get them to stay in tune. The pegs turn themselves. I am wondering, do I need new strings? Do the pegs need to be tightened? Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? It's an Ohana pineapple uke, if that helps any- the people at UkeleleWorld.com said that it was a good quality beginner ukulele, so I don't think the problem is necessarily related to quality. Any help and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Current Mood: anxious |

hallo folks..
Got a couple of projects under my belt, which I'll be posting in time- a rebuild of the world's cheapest, most nasty ukulele to give me a half-decent electro-acoustic soprano, a rebuild of my ancient banjo-uke and a genuine full-scale-length bass ukulele, rather than the short scale ones that are made somewhere-or-other-I-forget-where.
Meantime, does anybody know the chord sequence for the Russian take-off, 'Lenin on a lamp-post' by the UOGB? I have the original chords as Formby did it, but I'd rather the tongue-in-cheek version. Failing that, does anyone know what i have to do re. flattening chords, changing to minors or whatever, to my current chord sequence?
Hope that made sense.. |
